HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-12 Park DepartmentPark Report September 2012
Operationally, this is a challenging time of year for the Parks Division.
We are down to 3 seasonal employees and volume of trash, dog waste,
etc….has increased, now that M.S.U. is back in session. As it cools
down, the grass is growing again, which has our two mowers
scrambling to keep the grass at an acceptable height.
Fall maintenance and projects include: aeration and fertilization of
athletic fields and core parks, seeding the basketball hoop area at the
Pond and the boulevards at Bronken. Irrigation extension at BMX,
slowly transitioning our equipment, weather dictating, to a winter
program. In the next month, we will start winterizing restrooms,
buildings, and irrigation systems. GVLT has started work on the West
side connector trail and the state of the art bridge along the
Sourdough trail. The hope is to have everything wrapped up before
the snow flies.
Park Improvement Grant (PIG) projects that are on-going are: the
water fountain at Bogert has been completed with nothing but
positive feedback, the ball field improvement at Aasheim, infield
renovation at the Complex and re-installing paper towel holders at
Christie. In addition, there was dirt-work done at the BMX Park and a
swing set installed at Walton’s HOA Park.
User groups in the fall are: AYSO soccer at Bronken Park, YMCA flag
football at the Softball Complex and Midget football is at Christie
Fields. Of course, Farmer’s Market will continue into the second week
of October, due to the longer growing season we had this year.
In regards to the Park Improvement Grant program…………. As we
move forward with the program, I am inclined to suggest having a
sub-committee meeting in regards to what I see as the direction of the
program. My two main talking points are 1.) Having the Parks
Division, with guidance from RPAB, suggest projects that we see a
need for and……….. 2.) We want to see bigger projects. I believe where
we fell down and lost track of things was there were too many little
projects that require supervision and oversight.
