HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2309 Supporting House Bill #709 - grants for Ennis and Mystic Lake projects: 3-11-81 - -- . .__ ~ '_~'~_""~_r_' ~.~_......__~__ _ ~_'_~~~"__"__ .~._. -_'~'_"_'___"~_r _''''''~'''_~''r'' .n. ,~,. -. ..- -392 COMrUSSION RESOLUTION NO. 2309 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF AND URGING PASSAGE BY THE MONTANA LEGISLATURE OF HOUSE BILL NO. 709, AND IN PARTICULAR THOSE PROJECTS IN SAID BILL IDENTIFIED AS (12) A GRANT TO THE BLUE RIBBONS OF THE BIG SKY COUNTRY AREAWIDE PLANNING ORGANIZATION FOR THE ENNIS LAKE THERMAL PROBLH1 CONTROL PROJECT: AND (15) A GRANT TO THE CITY OF BOZEMAN FOR THE MYSTIC LAKE DAM REPAIR PROJECT. I WHEREAS, (1) the City of Bozeman is one of thirteen local agencies which sponsor the Blue Ribbons of the Big Sky Country Areawide Planning Organization; and WHEREAS, the City has contributed both staff and financial support to the studies under- taken by Blue Ribbons to preserve and protect the Blue Ribbon streams in the r1adison and Gallatin River drainages; and WHEREAS, Blue Ribbons has been working for over five years to develop a solution to the thermal pOllution problem of the lower Madison River; and WHEREAS, Blue Ribbons has applied for a grant of $125,000 through the Renewable Resource Development Program to conduct feasibility studies of the various alternative solutions identified to solve the thermal problem; and WHEREAS, the Renewable Resource Development Program has been submitted for approval to the Legislature of the State of Montana as House Bill 709; and WHEREAS, (2) one of two major water sources for the City of Bozeman is Mystic Lake (reservoir); and WHEREAS, a leak was recently detected in the dam which forms r1ystic Lak,e, one which should be repaired at the earliest opportunity; and I WHEREAS, a grant of funds to assist in the cost of repairing this dam has been applied for, suggesting the State Renewable Resource Development Program as a source; and WHEREAS, the approval of this grant is also a part of House Bill 709, identified as Item (15): NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of Bozeman hereby expresses its support for House Bill 709 and in particular those projects in said Bill identified as (12) a grant to the Blue Ribbons of the Big Sky Country Areawide Planning Organization for the Ennis Lake Thermal problem control project: $125,000; and (15) a grant to the City of Bozeman for the Mystic Lake dam repair project: $60,000 or the amount of the award of the bid, whichever is less; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED*BY THE CITY COMMISSION of the City of Bozeman, at a regular and -'\ '"1) stated session of said City Commission, held on the 11th da~ of March, 8l. /~ /M -, ATTEST: I R~ d iJ~~ Clerk of the City Commission * that the Commission urges its legislative delegation to support passage of House Bill 709.
