SUBJECT: Authorize the City Manager to sign the Notice of Award to award the
contract for the 2012 Street Improvements to Knife River, Inc. in the amount of $354,467.50.

RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the Notice of Award to award the
contract for the 2012 Street Improvements to Knife River, Inc. in the amount of $354,467.50.
BACKGROUND: Bids were opened June 12, 2012, for the 2012 Street Improvements
project. The project consists of an asphalt overlay of Kagy Blvd from Highland Blvd to
Bozeman Trail, a mill and overlay of S. Bozeman Ave from Olive Street to Story Street along
with some curb replacement work, and seal coating of Davis Lane and portions of Cattail Street
and N. 27th Ave. One bid was received from Knife River, Inc. of Belgrade, MT in the amount of
$354,467.50. The bids appear to be competitive with the low bid being approximately 14%
below the construction estimate ($416,247.00). A copy of the Certified Bid Tabulation is
attached.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Funding for this work has been planned for from the Fuel Tax
fund.
