The City Senior Advisory Board Meeting, Bozeman, Montana
"Making Bozeman the Most Senior Friendly City in Montana"
June 6, 2012
1. Call to Order : Commission Room, 121 N. Rouse. Norm Dreyer, President, called the
meeting to order at 1:30 PM. Present: Norm Dreyer, President; Fran Shellenberger,
Secretary; Peggy Tombre; Bernie Warwood
2. MINUTES: Ms. Tombre Moved and Ms. Warwood Seconded approval of the Minutes of the
April and May 2012 Meetings. The vote to approve was unanimous.
3. Ms. Shellenberger Moved and Ms. Warwood seconded the resignation of Board Member
Susan Lear with appreciation for her many contributions to the Board. The vote to approve
was unanimous.
4. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
5. OLD BUSINESS: Discussion was held regarding the following:
a. Preparation of Request for Funds from the City Parks and Recreation Department to
build benches for use during Sweet Pea;
b. Application for Handicapped Loading Zone for use at the Wilson School Building
sidewalk ramp;
c. Promote the State Insurance Commission and Securities Commission's video, "Gold
Diggers: Investment Fraud in the Treasure State."
d. MSU: James Goehrung, City ADA Coordinator and Board Liaison to the MSU
Disabilities Advisory Board, will report in October, 2012.
e. MSU: Stacy Radke, Director of Development, College of Nursing, College of Education,
Health and Human Development, is working with Prof. Sandy Osborne and Prof. Dawn
Terebocha toward the development of an internship program with the Board.
f. Promote Bozeman as a site for the Governor's Conference on Aging — tabled until
February 2013.
g. Increase awareness of Bozeman's present and potential value as a desirable retirement
location; increase awareness of the value of the senior population to the city and state
economy:
i. Prepare paragraph regarding Montana population demographics for use in the
Board's written materials and proposals.
ii. Develop criteria for "senior friendly" designation for area businesses.
iii. Find ways to recognize local businesses for their senior friendly efforts.
1. Write letters to the Editor of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle recognizing
local businesses for their efforts toward senior friendliness.
2. Develop and seek approval for an Awards/Recognition ceremony during
City Commission meetings.
3. Design a window decal for presentation to senior friendly businesses.
h. Request the Senior Center Woodworking Group to prepare appropriate signs for the
Grand Avenue entrance to the Fairgrounds for overflow parking for the Senior Center.
6. NEW BUSINESS:
"Making Bozeman the Most Senior Friendly City in Montana"
a. Ask the Senior Center Board of Directors to appoint a member of the Senior Center to
serve as a new member of the Board, as called for in the Bylaws.
7. ADJOURNMENT.
The next meeting will be held August 1, 2012.
