REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Natalie Meyer, Climate Protection Coordinator
Anna Rosenberry, Finance Director
Chris Kukulski, City Manager
SUBJECT: Award of bid to Engine 8 Design to develop a logo in collaboration with Bozeman Climate Partners’ Communications Working Group to identify projects and initiatives
related to the Climate Action Plan.
MEETING DATE: May 14, 2012
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the award of bid to Engine 8
Design to develop a logo in collaboration with Bozeman Climate Partners’ Communications
Working Group to identify projects and initiatives related to the Climate Action Plan. The bid
price is not to exceed $2,475.
BACKGROUND: On March 28, 2011, the Bozeman City Commission adopted the
Community Climate Action Plan. The stated goal of this Community Climate Action Plan is to
engage the Bozeman community in carbon reduction efforts that will protect the environment,
promote a healthy community, generate clean energy jobs, and save taxpayer dollars.
To help implement the Community Climate Action Plan, the City of Bozeman formed a
community working group to focus on climate communications and outreach. This group began
meeting on January 4, 2012 and has established the name Bozeman Climate Partners to signify
the collaborative partnership between the city and the community to reduce Bozeman’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Budget authority to develop a logo for the Climate Action Plan program was established in the
Fiscal Year 2012 budget. The logo will be a simple visual representation that quickly identifies
Bozeman Climate Partners and the projects and initiatives related to our adopted Climate Action Plan. A logo is a critical element in any communications campaign and will enable to the City of
Bozeman to more readily promote our sustainability efforts and garner broader community
participation.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The professional services needed for the logo design work was advertised as a Request for Bids. Ten responses were received and reviewed by the Bozeman Climate
Partner’s Communications Working Group during a public meeting on April 25, 2012. This
contract was negotiated with the highest ranked bidder. These services will be paid for from the
6
Climate Protection Coordinator’s Fiscal Year 2012 budget for Climate Action Plan
implementation.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
