➢ Operationally, crews are working to keep Bogert's rink alive, Southside
and Beall rinks are closed for the season. Maintenance and prep work
has started on the equipment we use in the spring and summer,
(Mowers, tractors, aerators) Indoor work continues on garbage rack
repair and assembly, park signs, tables, painting restroom interiors,
etc.—., Outdoors, crews continue garbage and dog waste collection,
plowing sidewalks and parking lots, pick up sod and prepping facilities
to open in the spring.
➢ Park Improvement Grant applications will be accepted until March 15th.
I am hoping that we get some quality applications. I have heard of
various projects, ranging from ball field improvements to drinking
fountains.
➢ I had a User Group meeting with the stakeholders on February 28th
that was well attended. I went over the intention of fees, history, and a
simple comparison of"average" park maintenance versus what a User
group can expect, then I presented a brief PowerPoint presentation in
regards to how I come up with the "above and beyond" direct costs that
User groups incur. After the presentation, we had a good conversation,
topics included: being a unified voice when we go to the commission
with the fees, partnerships (school and MSU), understanding the
differences in the groups that use city-owned facilities and in turn how
is that reflected in your fees and '% of subsidy.
➢ Speaking of User Groups, I will try and get the agreements updated and
sent out next week. We are running out of space, especially in the
spring- on of the realities is we are going to have to start `sharing"- we
virtually sending tournaments away due to lack of facilities and athletic
fields. (Lacrosse example)
➢ Doug, myself and legal are working on a "Master" list of parks, who
maintains them and if it is a HOA- who is the contact- this research
also allows for a discussion pertaining to a Park Maintenance District,
because we are becoming familiar with what we do not maintain.
