TREE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES FEBRUARY 15, 2012 12:00 PM ?7N co. -_- CITY SHOPS TRAINING ROOM BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Bill Hoch, Chairperson Mary Keck Lessa Racow Jennifer Weiss Absent: Shelly Engler Chris Mehl, Commission Liaison CITY STAFF PRESENT: Ryon Stover, City Forester Michelle Dipzinski, Board Secretary GUESTS PRESENT: None Item # 1—Call meeting to order: • Chairperson Hoch called the meeting to order at 12:03p.m. Item #2— Review meeting agenda: • No changes were requested. Item #3 —Approve January 18, 2012 meeting minutes—Action Item: • No public comment was presented • Page 4, Item 48, last bullet, change scooped up all the trees to scooped up a bunch of trees Motion: Boardmember Weiss motioned to approve the January 18, 2012 as amended. Boardmember Racow seconded the motion. Minutes of the Tree Advisory Board Meeting,February 1.5,2012 The motion passed unanimously. Item #4 —Open Public Comment: • No public comment was presented Item #5 — New Business: A) Year end summary report: • Under Othertree board activity for 2011 change the third bullet down to read "Your Urban Forest" • Secretary Dipzinski will make the requested change and send on to the Commission B) Boardmember Racow's presentation from Human Right's Day: • The presentation was presented to the board C) Cost Share Program 2012: • The number of trees has increased to 125 trees • Foreman Stover is working on getting quotes from several nurseries • Discussed possibly piggybacking on an out of state order with a local nursery • Discussed the city having a nursery to supply our own trees for the Cost Share program • The five or six species in the program this year will depend on what is available, no decisions have been made yet • The price for the trees will remain $50.00 this year • Will advertise in the Chronicle, on the city website and on Channel 20 D) Arbor Day 2012: • Is the last Friday in April and it will be recognized by possibly doing an event at Chief Joseph School and possibly having the Million Ways Club involved • No other plans have been decided yet, it usually snows on Arbor Day so the plantings happen at a later date • Discussed airing the Arbor Day PSA, Boardmember Keck read the one from last year. Changes were made to make it more general so it wouldn't have to be changed each year. The changes were made and the new PSA will be scheduled to air mid March through Mid April Item #6 —Old Business: A) Tree Walk/Heritage Tree Program: • No new information was available Minutes of the Tree Advisory Board Meeting,February 15,2012 B) Rouse Avenue Rebuild: • No new information was available Item #7--FYI: a) Bogert Park streamside restoration project: b) Gallatin Valley water issue: c) Other board information/activities: Y Park & Recreation Board, Boardmember Engler liaison: ➢ Beautification Board: Y Subdivision Review Committee: Cemetery Board, Chairperson Keck liaison: d) 2020 Plan &Transportation Plan: e) Strengthen relationship with MSU: f) Tree board history: g) Tree pest alert process, information to arborists & maintenance company Item #8—Other: • No new business Item #9 —Schedule next meeting— March 21, 2012: The next scheduled meeting is set for March 21, 2012 in the City Shops Training Room at 814 N. Bozeman Ave from noon to fpm Adjournment Motion: Boardmember Keck motioned to adjourn the meeting at 1:00 pm. Boardmember Weiss seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
