PETITION TO PLACE CITY OF BOZEMAN REFERENDUM
NO. 2012-01 ON THE NOVEMBER 6, 2012 ELECTION BALLOT AS A SPECIAL ELECTION
Pursuant to Montana law, if 25% of the registered electors of the City of Bozeman as reduced by the requirements of Section 6.03 of the Bozeman City Charter sign
this Petition and the total verified number of electors signing this Petition is 4,041 then a referendum on Bozeman, Montana, City Commission Resolution No. 741
(adopted July 1, 1953) will appear as a special election on the November 6, 2012 election ballot. If a majority of registered electors vote to support the referendum
at that election, Resolution No. 741 will be repealed and the Bozeman City Commission may not re-enact such resolution or take any action to fluoridate the City’s
water supply for a period of two (2) years.
We, the undersigned registered electors residing within the City of Bozeman, Montana, propose that the Gallatin County, Montana, election administrator place the
following referendum on the November 6, 2012, election ballot as a special election for the City of Bozeman:
[ ] FOR City of Bozeman Resolution 741 which authorizes the introduction of fluoride into the City’s drinking water supply system.
[ ] AGAINST City of Bozeman Resolution 741 which will prohibit the introduction of fluoride into the City’s drinking water supply system.
Voters are urged to read the complete text of Resolution 741, which is attached to this Petition. A signature on this Petition is only to place the measure on the
November 6, 2012 election ballot and does not necessarily mean that the signer agrees with the referendum. The text of Resolution 741 begins on the next page.
WARNING
A person who purposefully signs a name other than the person’s own to this petition, who signs more than once for the same issue at one election, or who signs
when not a legally registered voter in the City of Bozeman is subject to a $500 fine, 6 months in jail, or both. Each person is required to sign the person’s name and
list the person’s address or telephone number in substantially the same manner as on the person’s voter registration card or the signature will not be counted.

PETITION TO PLACE CITY OF BOZEMAN REFERENDUM
Statement of Purpose
City of Bozeman Referendum 2012-01 repeals Bozeman City Commission Resolution 741 (July 1, 1953) which authorizes the introduction of fluoride into the City's
drinking water supply. If a majority of voters support the referendum at the election on November 6, 2012, such action repeals Resolution 741. Passage of the
referendum prohibits the City Commission from taking action to fluoridate the water supply for a period of two (2) years.
A 'FOR' vote sustains Resolution 741 and authorizes the continued fluoridation of the City's water supply.
An 'AGAINST' vote supports the referendum and prevents the fluoridation of the City's water supply.
