HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-04-12 Senior Citizens Advisory Board Minutes MINUTES The City Senior Advisory Board Meeting, Bozeman, Montana April 4, 2012 • Call to Order— Madison Room, City Hall, 121 N. Rouse. In the absence of the President the Secretary called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM. • Present: Fran Shellenberger, Secretary; City Commissioner Cindy Andrus; Susan Lear, Peggy Tombre, Lonnie Lear, K. McBee • Changes to the Agenda. • Preparation of Request for Funds from the City Parks and Recreation Department to build benches for use during Sweet Pea; • Seek Handicapped Loading Zones for use at Wilson Building and Reynolds Recital Hall; • Promote the State Insurance Commission and Securities Commission's video, "Gold Diggers: Investment Fraud in the Treasure State." • Public Comments. None. • Minutes: The April Minutes will be presented at the May meeting. • 2012 goals: Members reviewed all the 2012 Goals as follows: o Improve access in public places. o Obtain benches for Sweet Pea. o MSU • Access to facilities campus-wide. • Status of obtaining an MSU liaison and/or intern - pending. • Promote Bozeman as a site for the Governor's Conference on Aging in 2014. • Prepare paragraph regarding Montana population demographics for use in the Board's written materials. • Increase awareness of Bozeman's present and potential value as a desirable retirement location. • Increase awareness of the value of the senior population to the city and state economy: ■ Develop criteria for 'senior friendly' designation and find ways to recognize local businesses for their efforts—write letters to the Editor of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle recognizing local businesses for their senior friendliness. o Follow-up status of Fairground gate for access to new parking spaces during lunch hour Monday-Friday and evening events; DONE. The Senior Center Woodworking Group will prepare appropriate signs. • Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 2:30 PM. The next meeting will be held May 2, 2012 at City Hall.
