Ed Bends(ebenz @bozeman.net/582-2007), Carson Taylor Introductions April Minutes Approved Biking Safety (Police) • Over 20 bike officers (qualified and trained).Actively working = 10 (Sgt. Benz) • Bicycle registration is "defunct"- interested in bringing back from police dept. Possible discussion for BABAB?MSU has a good bike registration log system. • Many bike enthusiasts in police depts. • Invitation to Bike Week Party- share police depts' interest in biking • How much/how can police dept. help with biking education? • Irving school is getting a bike safety talk, would like to take talk to other schools as well. Not sure what age to target • Bike light campaign and involved with policemen. Definite interest. Could let us know stats on bike stops. • Ed offered to have police liason (as much as we would like) at meetings. May have a round- table about safety and issues. • Bike week-Ed will help with getting officers involved. Send email to Ed, how we would like them to participate, he will send on to officers and ensure some will be present.Action: send Ed email, invite to come by for free brkfasts.(Bill B.) Could let us know stats on bike stops.Action: follow up? • Enforcement in 6 states: Utah(careless driving),Washington, California, Oregon, NY, Conn and NJ • Based on Missoula ordinance. In Missoula- city commission approved, mayor vetoed • Was referred to police dept for feedback. (Waiting on feedback from police chief). Most likely will be approved if police chief is supportive. Taylor suggests that we need to keep in the media and to meet with police chief. Chief will not be available to mid to late Fall. Carson has been told June. • Ed thinks that it needs to be enforceable, which the current version is not. Suggests modification (primary enforcement). Would like to find out if it enforceable. • Sam thinks secondary enforcement is more feasible. • Action: Put cellphone ordinance endorsement on June agenda (Baker) • Action: Survey Bike Bozeman about cell phone ordinance? Discuss at next June mtg (Eliz) • Possible Action: Coordinate BABAB meeting with police chief about safety? Maybe at future date- Fall (ElizBill B.) (Pilot Light Partnership/Bike Light Campaign) • Involving police dept. • Sam offered ER participation • Bike accident data (MDT Highway Patrol Safety Data- Pierre Jomini) • Action Item: Send email/phone calls to John V. notifying of BABAB approval of up to $1400 expenditure, request movement/ask for timeline so that we can have them for Bike Week (Bill) Bike Week (All Actions): • Big Poster/Edits to Bike Poster to Steve Bretson (Elizabeth) • Media final- television at morning stop.Try for Monday at Rockford. Coordinate with city commission by emailing (Bill) • Drop off poster to Carson Taylor(8 W. Harrison) before May\ • Rockford/Chad- coffee guy ask for raffle prizes (Bill) • Ace Owenhouse (Chad) • Check in with The Garage(Eliz) • Pick up posters and distribute. Send email to Jason, Elizabeth, and Rebecca (Eliz) • Along with raffle tickets, each day's host should pedal bicycle benefits stickers,for sale by BABAB (Eliz) • Put together packet of materials for hosts of Bike Week (raffle tickets, bicycle benefits, eisel with paper(Bike Week SubCommittee) Bike Benefits • Action Item: Mass email to spreadsheet people, letting them know BABAB is now running Bicycle Benefits (Rebecca) • All BABAB members need to be willing to follow up with businesses (to be discussed/doled at next-June meeting)? Put on agenda (Baker) Bicycle Map • Steve checking in with Ben at Massive for final contract signatures for Bike Map CIP Projects • Bill C. suggests stripping north side of Durston west of Ferguson • John not present to discuss Peach Street (see if new info. @ June meeting) CTEP • No new news • Mention stripping of Durston west of Ferguson (Bill B) • Bring copies of CTEP list to next meeting (Bill B) • Master List of CTEP small improvement suggestions to John will create at June meeting (Baker) • Suggestions: Pete's Hill across Church over to Linear Trail (need to be cut back-obstructs view), Curb cut along cemetery in Lindley (ask Chad) FY 2011 Budget Request
