HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-07-11 Senior Citizens Advisory Board Minutes MINUTES Bozeman City Senior Advisory Board "Making Bozeman the Most Senior Friendly City in Montana" December 7, 2011 Bozeman City Hall, 121 N. Rouse, Bozeman, Montana PRESENT: Norm Dreyer, President; Fran Shellenberger, Secretary; Sean Becker, Deputy Mayor; Susan Fay Smith; Martha Drysdale. The President called the meeting to order at 1:15 PM. Approval of November minutes was postponed to the January 2012 meeting. Public Comments. None. 2011 goals: Improve access in public places. MSU facilities. The Secretary will prepare a draft letter expressing the Board's concerns regarding access to University buildings for disabled and elderly persons. Sweet Pea/benches. Ms. Smith has requested a prototype to be built by the Senior Center Woodworking Shop and submitted for approval. Status of Obtaining an MSU liaison. The Secretary will prepare a letter to the Division of Health and Human Development suggesting an internship with the Board for a student interested in Aging. Status of Family Academy at MSU. The concept is being circulated among MSU donors as part of long range planning. Promote Bozeman and MSU as one of three sites for the Governor's Conference on Aging Recruit additional members for the Board Member from Senior Living facilities. - DONE Nominee from Senior Center Letters of invitation to area senior entities: Letters will be prepared and sent electronically to area agencies requesting a member. Review Montana population demographics. DONE. We will prepare a short paragraph to be attached to our agenda and minutes and any correspondence we send. Increase awareness of Bozeman's present and potential value as a desirable retirement location. Increase awareness of the value of the senior population to the city and state economy. Status of reviewing Tamarack neighborhood for street improvements, including parking, pending. Alternative Locations for Board Meetings. The Board met in the Commission Room to take advantage of the availability of the Assistive Listening Device and microphones. New Business: Ms. Shellenberger suggested preparing Letters to the Editor of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle acknowledging services and accommodations to seniors and disabled persons by local businesses. Mr. Dreyer suggested a joint meeting of the Board in early 2012 to include John Vanderlinder and the Bozeman Senior Center Board. The meeting adjourned at 2:45 PM.
