➢ The budget has finally been adopted for fiscal year 2012. Highlights
include: $50,000 for new Park Improvement Grants, one new truck
and additional money for herbicides and fertilizer. On the flip side, we
all but eliminated the overtime budget, which of course, translated to
the 7 day work week, or the "weekend' shift.
➢ Fall user groups are AYSO soccer at Bronken, YMCA flag football is at
the Complex and midget football is at Christie. Each group has been
notified that User fee assessments are changing and we are looking
for partnerships going forward.
➢ On October 8, there was a dedication at the Regional Park for the
recently completed climbing boulders. It should be noted that the City
has provided over $50,000 (PIG) , staff time, wood chips and
equipment to these boulders. Without the city's involvement, the
boulder projects would not have been successful.
➢ The city is developing a social media policy that will affect websites,
Facebook, Twitter, etc... That will translate into staff monitoring
websites for potential inflammatory posts, etc. No two way
conversations etc.....
➢ Staff is preparing for winter by winterizing restrooms, blowing out
irrigation systems, applying the fall fertilization to the turf, getting the
plows ready and prepping equipment that needs to be stored. Weather
permitting, leaf clean-up will start here shortly and the boards will be
installed at Bogert in the next month.
➢ Collaborating with the Beall Park neighborhood group, the decision
has been made to spray the park with an herbicide this fall, hopefully,
in an effort to eradicate the plantain. The vision is to "start with a
clean slate" or a healthy stand of turf and at that point, manage it
herbicide free for as long as possible. It became obvious that we
started with too many weeds initially in the park for an herbicide free
program to be successful. We were going to spray today, but weather
concerns have us pushed into next week. We have one shot at this,
so timing will be key.
