Gallatin Valley Land Trust Report
GVLT cannot be present at this month's RPAB meeting. Please share these updates with the Board:
• Westside Trail. Over 50 volunteers helped resurface and brush the Westside Trail from the Gallatin Valley
Mall to Babcock in late September.
• Climbing Boulders. In partnership with the City,County,REI,and Bozeman Boulders Initiative,we
celebrated the grand opening of the new climbing boulders at the Regional Park last Saturday.Around 40
people came out to put the finishing touches on the site and to dedicate the boulders.
• East Gallatin Rec Area.Reroutes have been constructed on sections of trail in the East Gallatin Recreation
Area. The new hails are on both the west and east side of the river, and should help with annual flooding
issues. This work was funded by RTP grants.
• Morningstar Trail. Contractors installed culverts and resurfaced a section of the hail near Morningstar
School to alleviate flooding issues. This work was funded by RTP grants.
• Hospital Trails - Ellis & Highland Connector. The City to allow us to build a small connector
trail at the intersection of Ellis and Highland(near the softball complex),which will help funnel cross-country
skiers to a safe crossing to access the hospital lands east of Highland, where the Bridger Ski Foundation will
again be grooming trails for winter use.The City has also agreed to stripe and sign all four crosswalks, and they
have installed a streetlight for safety. The trail installation was completed at the end of September with funding
from Collin's Coalition.
• Sourdough Canyon Trailhead. We broke ground this week on improvements at the trailhead. Our goals
are to improve public safety by straightening some blind curves and installing a turn-around for emergency
vehicles, enhance recreational enjoyment by expanding the parking, and protect Sourdough Creek by widening
the floodplain and restoring native vegetation. The trailhead is scheduled to re-open on October 21.
• GVLT's Trail Partner Of the Year was awarded to Ron Dingman at our Trail Mix celebration on
Tuesday. We honored and thanked"Captain Ron"for his gears of dedication and commitment to helping
make Bozeman's parks and trails a fantastic community asset. We are grateful for his service!
Thanks!
