Bozeman City Senior Advisory Board
"Making Bozeman the Most Senior Friendly City in Montana"
November 2, 2011
Bozeman City Hall, 121 N. Rouse, Bozeman, Montana
PRESENT: Norm Dreyer, President; Fran Shellenberger, Secretary; Sean Becker, Deputy Mayor; Susan Fay Smith
and Peggy Tombre.
The President called the meeting to order at 1:15 PM.
Mr. Dreyer MOVED and Ms.Tombre SECONDED the approval of the Minutes of the October 12, 2011 meeting.
The vote to approve was unanimous.
Public Comments. Mrs. Martha Drysdale appeared to express concern regarding the lack of access for disabled
persons to many local businesses and buildings on the Montana State University campus.
The status of the 2011 goals was discussed:
Improve access in public places.
MSU facilities.The Secretary will prepare a draft letter expressing the Board's concerns
regarding access to University buildings for disabled and elderly persons.
Sweet Pea/benches. Ms. Smith will request a prototype to be built by the Senior Center
Woodworking Shop similar to those at Eagle Mount.
Status of Obtaining an MSU liaison. The Secretary will prepare a letter to the Division of Health
and Human Development suggesting an internship with the Board for a student interested in
Aging.
Status of Family Academy at MSU.
Promote Bozeman and MSU as one of three sites for the Governor's Conference on Aging
Recruit additional members for the Board
Member from Senior Living facilities.
Nominee from Senior Center
Letters of invitation to area senior entities
Review Montana population demographics. Mr. Dreyer presented a draft paragraph for review
and eventual inclusion in the Board's written materials.
Increase awareness of Bozeman's present and potential value as a desirable retirement location
Increase awareness of the value of the senior population to the city and state economy
Status of reviewing Tamarack neighborhood for street improvements, including parking, pending.
Alternative Locations for Board Meetings.
The Board met in the Commission Room to take advantage of the availability of the Assistive
Listening Device and microphones.
New Business:
Ms. Shellenberger suggested preparing Letters to the Editor of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle
acknowledging services and accommodations to seniors and disabled persons by local businesses.
Ms. Shellenberger reminded the Board that the topic for the Wonderlust program for November 11
regards Aging statistics from the recent census and how they affect Montana.
The meeting adjourned at 2:45 PM. The next meeting will be held December 7, 2011, 1:15 PM, in the
Commission Room at City Hall.
