SUBJECT: Community Transportation Safety Plans

MEETING DATE: December 12, 2011
RECOMMENDATION: Approve City of Bozeman participation in the Montana Department
of Transportation Community Transportation Safety Plan program and authorize the Mayor to
sign the letter requesting participation.
BACKGROUND: The Montana department of Transportation (MDT) developed the
Community Transportation Safety Plan (CTSP) program to provide technical and financial
assistance to local communities wishing to improve transportation safety. The process of
developing the plan consists of the following:
Coordinate and collaborate effort of stakeholders
Identify primary safety concerns
Prioritize projects and programs and help identify potential partners
Improve safety, save lives and reduce crashes and injuries
These plans consider driver behavior as well as infrastructure and go beyond constructing or
reconstructing a roadway.

MDT posts the Request for Proposals (RFP), pays for the safety plan, and holds and administers
the consultant contract. The city will be responsible for no paperwork, will pay no invoices and
make no submittals.

FISCAL EFFECTS: None.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
