As the City's representative on the Gallatin Solid Waste District Board, I'm providing you with this update on
the District's operations. Please contact me if you have questions.
Bozeman Convenience Site
• The minimum fee was increased from $6 to $10 in June. In August, 1,345 customers used the site to
deposit 254 ton of debris. The City receives a percentage of the fee collected for brush and compost
disposed of at the convenience site because we tend the site. In August our share was $973.
• In FYI 1, 11,456 customers used the site depositing 3,166 ton of debris. The city's percentage of the
brush /compost fee was $13,757.
• Winter hours will begin November 1 and end on May 1. The Bozeman Convenience Site will be opened
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The Logan Landfill is open Monday through
Saturday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
E- Waste /Household Hazardous Waste (HHW):
• National Prescription Drug Take -Back Day will be Saturday October 29, 2011, 10 am to 2 pm at the
Law & Justice Center.
• E -Waste can be deposited at the landfill for a fee. The District recently shipped 50 pallets of E -Waste
weighing 22.88 tons.
• A monthly HHW event is held at the Bozeman Convenience Site located at the City's Story Mill
Landfill. The September event had 36 customers drop off their HHW for free.
• The old DUI building was moved from the Law and Justice site to the Logan landfill. The building is
being renovated for use as an E- Waste /HHW processing and warehouse space.
Recycling:
• The District maintains seven free drop -off sites in the City, and seven in other locations in the county.
In August, 263 tons of material was collected and recycled.
• The District had a booth at the County Fair, Manhattan Potato Festival, Belgrade Fall Festival, and
Catapalooza. "Ricky the Recycling Bear" is a big hit at these events.
• Staff met with Natalie Meyer, the City's Sustainability Coordinator, to collaborate on recycling
education and outreach in the Bozeman School District. Natalie has done considerable work with the
schools, and the District staff worked with her and did a presentation for Irving School. District Staff is
also networking with MSU's sustainability educator.
• Over 2,600 ton of concrete from the old jail was stockpiled at the Logan landfill and will soon be
pulverized /ground and the metal removed for recycling/re -use.
