RE: Story Mansion Sale Proposal – Letter of Transmittal
Please find attached a Proposal from Exergy Development Group, in concert with the Friends of
the Story, Inc., to receive ownership of the Story Mansion in accord with all of the City of
Bozeman’s requirements and conditions on its sale, together with a Resolution from the Board of
Directors of the Friends of the Story, Inc., endorsing the Proposal.
Exergy and the Friends of the Story take very seriously the financial and community
responsibilities involved in taking possession of, preserving, restoring, and re-vitalizing this Property.
But we have both the resources and the experience necessary to make sure that these
responsibilities are fulfilled.
Exergy would like to take this opportunity to thank Friends of the Story for the invaluable service
they have provided to the community for the past three years, by leading tours of the Mansion,
organizing community events, and contributing thousands of hours of their time to promote and
preserve the property. They have been extremely helpful and forward thinking in the development
of this proposal, and we look forward to establishing a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship
with them as described in the pages that follow.
All of these efforts will continue and be expanded in a re-named 501(c)3 organization, to which
Exergy Development Group will donate sufficient funds and its own considerable and renewable
energy to make possible the purchase, preservation, and restoration of the property in a way that
respects the zoning and easement restrictions that now govern its use and allows it to fulfill the
City’s original intention of creating a focal educational, recreational, and cultural community center
in one of its most historic and beautiful neighborhoods.
In preparing this proposal, we have had extended conversations with the City Manager, Chris
Kukulski, various City Planners, local architects, members of the Montana State University
Administration, and a number of people who are otherwise “stakeholders” in a re-vitalized Story
Mansion property.
We look forward to working very closely with the City between now and the time by which the
many details involved in the sale of this property shall be worked out. There is a common purpose
here, a common vision, and a widely-shared resolve to move forward.
Sincerely,
Gordon Brittan
Director of New Product Development
