ACTION ITEMS:
1.Bill C. will represent BABAB at 9.12 City Commission meeting. Will talk about supporting
biking infrastructure development and driver/biker cell phone use safety awareness campaign
funding by city
2.Bill B. will present to the city the distracted driving petition signatures at the city 10.3 meeting
3.Eliz, Bill C., Sam and Audrey and Rebecca, will compile a striping priority list to submit to the
city commission by October 14th.
4.Eliz will send out a notice about 9.12 public comment to support distracted driving education
campaign to PTSC (Sam Miller), on FB and Bike Bozeman.
5.Nonnie will write a letter to the editor about the Roundabout (both support for and for bikes to
act as cars
6.John V.. will remove language on website regarding bikes dismounting at round about.
7.BABAB will help get out the message regarding the Bike Count via FB and Bike Bozeman
8.Sam H., Audrey, Bill C. and Eliz are able and will sign up to help with the Bike Count
9.Audrey, Sam and Bill C. will work with Chris Mehl to be present and voice support at
upcoming Bike Trails initiative kick off meeting.

Taylor (Commissioner), Debbie Arkell (City Staff), + three Conservation Corp. volunteers

IV.Bike Counts
1.Joe Gilpin (Alta):
1.Priorities (September 14-16th): Durston/19th; Babcock/Main, College/11th; On campus
(middle of Centennial Mall); Kagy/S 3rd; Church&Story, Gallagator Trail, Peach/Rouse;
Lamme/Grand. Need volunteers. 5-7pm, 3 days spring and fall. Standardized count
form. Ideally would have the same person at the same site every day. Will send
summary email to Bill C.

V.Peach Bike Striping Follow up
1.Will be adding Parking/Biking lane signs on north side. City wants to make clear that
parking on n. side is permitted
VI.Distracted Driving Ordinance
1.Chief Price is presenting to City Commission on Distracted Driving- October 3rd, policy
discussion meeting.
1.Materials from police office will be available 1 week prior to meeting. Packet materials.
1.Accident Investigation (January 1-July 1) Summary: # accidents, # with cell phones,
etc.
2.Overview of available research
3.Model ordinance- all are the same except Missoula (texting only)
2.Police Chief Price-believes the research does not show that an ordinance with
enforcement results in decrease in accidents
3.Police support a vibrant education campaign- need to search for effective education
campaign. i.e. “Click it or ticket”, “Share the Road”, etc. “Arrive Alive, Don't Text &
Drive”
4.Would like to see increase in enforcement of careless driving
2.If not a distracted driving ordinance, then what?
1.Increased enforcement of existing rules and laws (such as careless driving)
2.Education funds
3.Budget meeting- put x dollars into the fund for education. “Arrive Alive, Don't Text and
Drive”. September 12th. $100k effective campaign. Email Sam Miller. Bill C. will go to
meeting. Who does Streamline's Advertisting. Tom can send out email to his group.
4.Collin's Coalition
1.will be starting with MDT, a conversation about guard rails going up to Bridger Canyon
(before the M and Drinking Horse)
2.$5-10K grants available for “Safe Connections” projects- could go to education funds
for distracted driving
VII.Bike Lane Priorities!!! (Submit to city by mid-October)
1.Subcommittee: Bill C., Rebecca, Sam, Audrey & Elizabeth
2.Need to formalize a list of priorities
1.Routes that would make good connections
2.Start with the most important routes for bike assessibility, then the easy striping
TOP THREE
1.Kagy (Highland to 19th)
2.Willson (bulb out, man holes, need more sidewalks)
3.11th (remove parking off one side, similar to Peach)
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT
4.Baxter (being worked on out in the future, very important b/c of Chief Joseph)
5.Grand- (long term, rework it with parking on one side)
6.North 25th (lanes existing on Oak and Durston)
7.South 23rd (College to Main)
8.8th will get stripes for sure
9.Rouse (not until 2017)
10.Improve stripping on Oak on 7th
11.Broadway
VIII.Tour de Cure- Century, ½ Century, +
IX.NURB:
1.Sharrows & Signage
2.New sidewalk on south and north side
3.Note: no funding at this point for this plan, but want it to be finalized before Rouse
X.Roundabout
1.Bill C. would like BABAB to write a statement about the roundabout and ask the city to
change the language on the website. Bikes are vehicles. Ask John to take it off the website.
2.Nonnie will write letter to the editor about the use of the roundabout
XI.Trails Campaign
1.Audrey, Rebecca, Sam and Bill are interested in attending and speaking. Chris Mehl will
send them details. Note: This campaign is not yet public, so please limit discussion to the
start up meeting September 22nd and 23rd.
