Boardmember Engler seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Item #4 — Open Public Comment: m No public comment was given Item #5— New Business: A) Tree Walk— landmarl(trees: • The term landmark will be used instead ofhistoric • Need to compile a list uftrees, they don't all have 1obeon public space • Check with the Historical Society to see if they have any information that could be useful • Chairperson Keck will QpUo the Pioneer Museum tn look for information also • Boardmembers Walters and Hoch will see if there are tree at MSU that could be included • Derrick Strong could be consulted with also • Items to include in the brochure: u Explain why certain trees are not allowed asa city tree o Include before and after photos Lo show how trees can enhance anarea Bl ~ City Administration has met with the Governor w The middle of June is when the flooding could be the worst, the water could come down all at once w Information will be pushed to the public through mass media releases Item #6 — Old Business: • Arbor day was celebrated mn May I1 m and no problems were encountered • Chairperson Keck sent information to the media outlets but none were available for the planting • Seven trees were planted at Chief Joseph Middle School, Five Northwood Red Maple were purchased through the Arbor Day Grant and two Bur Oak were purchased through the Cost Share Program • Million Ways Kids were involved with the event B) Cost Share Program: • About seventy of the one hundred trees have been sold • Four of the seven tree species have been sold out • Once the weather improves the trees will sell faster C) City Tree Master Plan • The Commission Memorandum has been typed, Superintendent Van Delinder has seen it and forwarded on to Public Service Director Arkell for her to look at Item #7 — FYI: Only the bulleted items were discussed a) Bogert Park streamside restoration project: • This project is bigger than just the Bogert Park Streamside, the project will include all of Bozeman Creek • There is a group that is working on the project and they are planning a cleanup in September; they are looking for volunteers and funding to help cover disposal fees at the Logan Landfill b) ;Gallatin Valley water issue: • Email correspondence between Commissioner Mehl and Planning Director McHarg regarding boulevard and sod requirements was provided to board members • Boardmember Engler says she is being asked by a City Planner to sod before a sidewalk is put in, • There is a water issue meeting tomorrow night at 7pm, information is posted in the newspaper c) Other board information /activities:. a. Cemetery Board, Chairperson Keck liaison: d) 2420 Plan & Transportation Plan: e) Strengthen relationship with MSU: f) Tree board higgry:, g) Tree pest alert process, information to arborists & maintenance company: • Austrian Pines are losing their tops, those trees have been found to have a black stain • A small bark beetle has been found, it is smaller than a pine beetle; it could be the beetle, the weather issues from two years ago or a fungus that could be affecting the trees or a combination of all three • Signs to look for: o Red needles, once they have turned the tree is dead o Small holes will be seen, smaller than the pine beetle To resolve the problem: o Prune out the bad areas o Burn the removed debris • A letter was received from Jim Lawson of Lawmon's Greenhouse regarding the trees listed as acceptable in the Tree Guide • Boardmember Engler said she was contact by him regarding the issue and she encouraged him to write the letter • Superintendent Van Delinder responded to his letter encouraging him to attend the meetings and provide public comment • Term expiration will be checked mn and sent to the board members � The next meeting date is set for June 22, 2011 from noon to 1prn to be held in the Madison Room upstairs at City Hall, 121N. Rouse Ave. Motion: Boardmember Engler motioned to adjourn the meeting at 12:52pm. Boardmember Weiss seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
