HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-09-11, Recreation Report.pdfRecreation Report June 9, 2011 • The Bogert Pool 1939 water heater finally gave out this winter. The tank has rusted out and is not repairable. Staff noticed it this spring when they were preparing the building for opening. The tank is wrapped in asbestos insulation and so an asbestos removal company had to be contracted to remove the material before Bozeman Plumbing and Heating can come in to replace the water heater. The project will cost about $25,000 and the money will come from vacancy savings in Recreation. This will cause our opening day for Bogert to be pushed to June 25. The original opening date was advertised as June 12. Press releases and radio announcements have been issued notifying the public of the change in the opening date. • We now have a full time Recreation Leader II for the first time. Her name is Holly Crane. Holly will attend next month's meeting so that you can meet her. • We have filled all seasonal positions in Recreation and Aquatics. 6 Recreation Leaders and 14 Lifeguards. • The 2012 CIP budget includes $380,000 for replacement of the Bogert Pool gutter system and pool shell, 30,000 for a new deck off the east side of the Lindley Center, and $20,000 for renovation of the Lindley Center basement. There are no guarantees that these will all stay in the budget but they haven't been removed yet. The budget is expected to receive final commission approval and adoption August 22. • The YMCA has leased a building at 524 Professional Dr., behind Sherwin Williams off of W. Main. They hosted a grand opening on Wednesday, June 8, which the Ron, Jamie, and Holly attended. Mayor Krauss was also there. Both the Parks and Recreation staff have been working with the YMCA for several years helping with their programs. We'll continue to work together to provide as many programs for the Bozeman community as we all can without competing or duplicating. • The Fellowship Baptist Church plan has received approval from the commission and the church will begin construction in July. This project is directly west of Rose Park and currently contiguous with Rose. When the project is complete, 25th will connect from Oak to Tschache. The project will be done in 3 phases. The first phase will consist of 25 th being completed to the church parking lot, from Oak north, and a temporary Class II fines trail will be installed from 27'h to Rose Park in alignment with Breeze Lane. Eventually Breeze Lane will also be completed but not until phase 2 or 3.
