HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-10-11 Community Alcohol Coalition Minutes.docxMinutes: Community Alcohol Coalition May 10, 2011 Members present: Jenny Haubenreiser, Glenn Puffer, Jenna Caplette, Cyndy Andrus Public comment: none Special presentations: Jenny walked through legislative bills that were of particular interest to CAC: HB 20 – allowing counties to pass social host laws: This made it through the committee and the house, but was tabled in the senate committee. There were no opponents to this bill so the failure came as a surprise (as did the bill failure in 2009). SB 29 – mandatory server training: This was passed and transmitted to the governor’s desk with an amendment to exclude the Department of Revenue as an oversight agency. Without this the mandate could be easily manipulated by the alcohol industry, thus defeating the purpose of the bill. No word yet whether the governor will send this back without the amendment. Jenna gave an overview of a recent presentation on drugged driving. A nurse from Kalispell who has also taken a key advocacy role for state DUI legislation came to Bozeman in April to discuss the latest science related to the issue. Jenna was disappointed at the turnout, given the quality and relevance of the topic, so efforts are underway to bring her back. Jenna also gave a summary of the recent Swimming Upstream Awards. Members discussed possible summer projects to include interested CAC members: Update and complete DUI FAQ brochure (MSU Health Promotion). Jenny would like to have this ready for the fall orientation. Draft a memo for all downtown tavern owners and managers. The group discussed the summer meeting schedule. There will be no CAC meeting in June or August. The group will meet in July. Meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. Next meeting will be July 12, 2011.
