HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4317, Change Order 1, College and 11th Roundabout.pdf Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Brian Heaston, Project Engineer Debbie Arkell, Director of Public Services SUBJECT: College/11th Roundabout - Change Order No. 1 MEETING DATE: June 13, 2011 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent. RECOMMENDATION: Motion and vote to approve and authorize City Manager to sign College/11th Roundabout – Change Order No. 1. BACKGROUND: Attached is a copy of change order number 1 for the above referenced project. This change order includes two items and provides a net reduction in contract price of $1,200.00. No modification to contract time is being provided with this change. The recommended decrease in cost is reasonable and commensurate with the work involved. The first item replaces the use of 100psi waterline insulation board with 60psi insulation and changes the unit price from $95/sqyd to $65/sqyd. A savings of $7,175.00 is realized for the estimated quantity of insulation to be installed. Item two increases the price of the electrical lump sum bid item by $5,975.00 for installation of additional electrical conduit and pull boxes at the pedestrian crosswalks of the roundabout. This change is requested to facilitate easy future installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB). RRFB is a pedestrian activated crossing device that uses amber LED flashers to provide advanced visual warning to drivers of actively crossing pedestrians. By providing conduit and pull boxes, future install of RRFB can occur simply as it will not require trenching across a newly constructed roadway and will not disrupt traffic flow with unnecessary closures. RRFB will be installed by city crews if additional pedestrian crossing protections are warranted once the roundabout is operational and budget is available. UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. 24 FISCAL EFFECTS: Overall, this change order decreases the contract amount by $1,200.00 from $652,747.35 to $651,547.35. The project is funded entirely with street impact fees.
