REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Andrew Kerr, Engineering Assistant
Rick Hixson, City Engineer
Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Peach Street Bike Lanes
MEETING DATE: June 6, 2011
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Approve signing and striping plan for bike lane designations on
Peach Street from N. 7th Avenue to Rouse Avenue.
BACKGROUND: At the March 21, 2011 Commission meeting, the City Commission
approved the designation of bike lanes on Peach Street from N. 7th Avenue to Rouse Avenue,
and directed staff to bring back a signing and striping plan for approval. The attached plan shows
bike lane designations as directed by the Commission: parking will remain on the north side
from Rouse Avenue to N. 6th Avenue, parking will be eliminated on the south side for the entire
length and on the north side from N. 7th Avenue to N. 6th Avenue, and the roadway centerline
will transition between 7th and 6th to allow for the required three-foot centerline shift.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None identified.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The estimated cost for the required signs and markings to install
bike lanes is $15,620, with the lane line work being done by contract and the signing and other
pavement marking work done by the Sign Department. Currently there is $17,500 designated in
the Street Maintenance fund for bike lanes. The maintenance cost of these bikes lanes is
estimated to be approximately $1,400 per year for annual re-striping, sign depreciation, and
occasional replacement of bike lane symbols.
