Ice rinks are still going strong- we have roughly 3- 31/2 weeks left
before we let them go- reason is we need the Bogert Pavilion ice and
hockey board- free by the first of April and the grass at Beall and
Southside cannot be incased in ice any longer if we want them to
spring back before July.
The Parks’ division crew is staying busy plowing rinks, sidewalks,
and the new CTEP trail. Along with rink maintenance, dog stations,
and shop projects – the move is pretty much completed into the old
mechanic’s shop- there have been a few growing pains- but I think the
move and set-up will be beneficial to the Parks Division.
All board members should have been sent a link to MSU extension
service- so you all can sign up and participate in the “Ethics Training”
on-line. Just a reminder……..
Doug (Park foreman) and I are continuing to visit with User Groups
and laying out the spring and summer seasons. We are continuing to
see an increase in the numbers of groups that want to use City-owned
facilities. Priority is given to those groups that have a history of use,
help with the facility – either maintenance, development or both,
etc…..
I am continuing to work with Brian in Finance to get a good idea
where we stand with the Park Improvement Grant program. Last year,
at this time, we had around 18 projects with money in them- now we
are down to around 5. The others have been completed.
Parks and Cemetery meet with Chris, Anna and Chuck next Thursday
to discuss the upcoming budget and the state of the city and the
division. Hot topic for sure- I will be asking for nominal increases in
areas such as; chemicals/fertilizer, contracted services (getting our
security back) and for maintenance of the Mansion.
