Box 1230 · Bozeman, MT · 59771 Minutes of the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board (RPAB) March 10, 2011 Meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by William VandenBos. The absence of a quorum was noted. Minutes: Tabled until 14 April meeting because of the lack of a quorum. Open Public Comment: No public comment Committee Reports: Subdivision Review (Sandy Dodge)—Sandy gave an update on the Hope House and discussed the committee’s support of the parkland plan. City Commissioner Report: None present. Gallatin Valley Land Trust (Gary Vodehnal): GVLT was awarded a Recreational Trails Grant for trails in the Bozeman area. Most of the funds will be spent on connector trails, the East Gallatin trails, and to control weeds. GVLT will be hiring a trail boss to work on trail projects throughout the area. Budget Overview Parks Division (Thom White): Tabled until more board members are present and additional information on the budget projection is available. Parks and Recreation Director’s Report (Ron Dingman): Ron discussed the proposal by Tom Garnsey of Vootie Productions to have a concert in Lindley Park a month before Sweet Pea. The concert would be from 7:00-10:00 p.m. The Parks and Recreation Department would likely charge a flat fee for the concert. Ron likes the idea because it could be a source of revenue for parks. Bill VandenBos expressed concerns about the overuse of Lindley Park and impacts on the Marwyn-Lindley neighborhood. Ron also discussed the issue of Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks trying to reduce the number of properties they own. Of particular interest is the East Gallatin Recreation Area. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks would like to sell the East Gallatin Recreation Area to the City of Bozeman. William VandenBos mentioned that he received a letter from the Swim Center constituents regarding several issues at the Swim Center. William wanted it noted in the minutes that the RPAB received the letter, but the RPAB won’t get involved in the day-to-day oversight between the Swim Center constituents and the Parks and Recreation Department staff. However, the RPAB does like being informed of how the Parks and Recreation Department staff handles complaints.
