COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 3476 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONT ANA, SUPPORTING THE FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF VICTIMS OF THE NATIONAL TRAGEDY ON SEPTEMBER 11,2001, EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR RESCUE AND RELIEF EFFORTS, AND ENSURING CONTINUED PEACEFUL CO- EXISTENCE IN BOZEMAN. WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, the United States of America suffered a terrible tragedy; and WHEREAS, thousands of people lost their lives in New York City; Washington, D.C.; and Somerset County, Pennsylvania, as the result of terrorist activities; and WHEREAS, countless people, including firefighters, police officers, construction workers, medical personnel, rescuers and other volunteers have worked diligently, while endangering their own lives, to aid in the rescue and recovery efforts; and WHEREAS, many organizations, including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and United Way, have undertaken national and local campaigns to provide support for those impacted by this devastation; and WHEREAS, this national tragedy has far reaching effects, impacting many of those in our community; and WHEREAS, it is important to respect both the ethnic and religious diversities of this community, including Americans of minority heritage, and the international faculty, staff and students; and WHEREAS, the City of Bozeman recognizes the importance of protecting the health, safety and welfare of all of its inhabitants. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana: Section 1 That it denounces the deplorable terrorist activities and recognizes and supports the efforts of all rescue and support agencies providing assistance to the victims and their families. Section 2 That it pledges its full commitment to maintaining a safe, peaceful and harmonious community and supports local law enforcement in taking lawful and appropriate steps necessary to maintain that peace and harmony in this hour of national tragedy.
