Max Baucus' office will study the feasibility of locating a major biotech manufacturing facility in Bozeman -- facility that could eventually create more than 200 jobs. Baucus is working with the Montana Economic Developers Association, the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, Prospera Business Network and LigoCyte Pharmaceuticals of Bozeman to launch the study, the senator said in a written statement released Monday. The proposed biotech facility would meet FDA requirements for Phase III vaccine trials, something LigoCyte has an immediate need for in developing its norovirus vaccine. The pharmaceutical company estimated that the facility would create 30 to 40 jobs at the start, paying $60,000 to $70,000 a year. Eventually, the facility could employ 200 to 300 people, the company said. "This is not only a great step toward creating new good-paying jobs in the biomedical research and manufacturing industry, but it sends the signal far and wide that Montana is serious about business," the Montana Democrat said in his written statement. "A new manufacturing facility in Bozeman has enormous potential in leading the way to more affordable medical treatments and technological advancements while boosting our economy in a sustainable way," Baucus said. A portion of the money left over from Baucus' 2010 economic development summit will go toward the study. Click HERE for KXLF-Butte coverage. Click HERE for KBZK-Butte coverage.
