2. City of Bozeman GIS Park Inventory
• Web address: http://gis.bozeman.net/park_inventory
• Provides basis for accomplishment of §9.1, Goal 10, Objective 4 of the Parks, Recreation,
Trails and Open Space (PROST) Plan:
Use GIS‐based databases of parkland and trails for planning and maintenance.
• Provides basis for accomplishment of §10.3.1 of the PROST:
Develop a GIS‐based system to track park size, location, ownership, and intended use where
records are easy to retrieve and review for use in scheduling and conducting maintenance.
• Provided the basis for the origination of policy recommendations, to be presented to the
City Commission on April 25, 2011, for the creation of a special district for parks
maintenance in the City of Bozeman.
• According to Jon Henderson, GIS Manager for the City of Bozeman, the top 5 benefits of
the park parcel inventory are:
1. Provides access to recording document information regarding dedication,
chronology, and survey details.
2. Allows a “birds‐eye‐view” of each park and its surroundings using aerial photography
and the ability to generate length & area calculations.
3. Shows layout and context of parks within each subdivision, including open space
areas.
4. Lists a full inventory of amenities associated with each park.
5. Delivers up‐to‐date information for use in the field as well as planning for the future.
