PART 1 – GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE
A. Furnish all labor necessary to complete the piping and valve installation.
B. The Contractor shall furnish materials, equipment and labor to furnish, install and
test the piping as described on the drawings and as herein specified.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.01 POOL PIPING
A. Interconnecting Pipe From Existing System to New Filtration System - All piping
connecting the old filter system to the pool new filter system shall be schedule 40
rigid pipe solvent weld bell with schedule 40 solvent weld fittings. All
connections to filter over 3" in size shall be flanged connections. Piping shall be
installed in accordance with the latest ASTM Publication for Specified Pipe.
B. All new circulation piping shall be Sch. 40 PVC.
C. All new heater pipe to match existing heater piping.
D. Testing - Testing of pipe connecting the filter system to the existing piping shall
be as follows:
All testing shall be done with water under pressure.
All piping under pressure shall be tested at 35 PSI for one full hour without
any significant drop in pressure.
All piping under vacuum or gravity flow shall be tested at 35 PSI for one full
hour without any significant drop in pressure.
E. Supports and hangers can be clamp, saddle angle, spring or other standard types.
Broad, smooth bearing surfaces are better than narrow or sharp contacts, since
they minimize danger of stress concentration and physical damage.
Supports generally should not clamp pipe and prevent end wise movement needed
to allow for thermal expansion. Rigid clamping is advisable at valves and fittings
located near sharp changes in direction when line is subjected to wide temperature
changes. With exception of couplings, all plastic fittings shall be supported
individually and valves shall be braced against operating torque. Generally,
vertical runs are supported by spring hangers and guided with rings or long U-
bolts, which restrict movement of rise to one plane. See support spacing chart
that follows:

suitable for buried installation.
B. Thermoplastic Butterfly Valves 4"-12" are wafer style to fit between ANSI B16.5
Class 150 flanges. Disc is smooth and contoured for lowest possible pressure drop
(highest Cv). Shaft is 410 S.S. and of one piece, through shaft design, with square
drive through entire length of blade. 4"-8" valves shall be complete with a spring
loaded 10-15 position latch lever or epoxy coated gear actuators as required or

pressure in either direction to allow on-line system maintenance. Valve stem is of
the blowout proof design. Valve has full port for lowest possible pressure loss.
Seats shall be easily adjustable and replaceable. Stem has an internal pressure
sealed land to protect stem and stem seal from contaminants. Every valve must be
fully pressure and cycle tested before leaving the factory.

POOL PIPING & VALVES 13151 – Page 3
E. Thermoplastic Ball Check Valves (1/2"-4") are of all thermoplastic construction.
Body has full length ribs for maximum flow, minimum pressure drop and to
eliminate ball sticking and chatter. Ball is of solid thermoplastic material. Seat is
full circle and resilient. A molded gasket seal and seat enlarges seating surface
and facilitates maintenance. Valves require less than one (1) PSI to open and 3-5
PSI to close drop tight. Valves are capable of installation in either vertical or
horizontal pipe run. Valves are readily adaptable for foot valve service with the
addition of a screen assembly.
2.03 PIPE AND VALVE IDENTIFICATION

POOL FILTER 13156 – Page 3
B. The patented influent manifold shall consist of an inlet duct connected to divergent
outlet ports with cowls. The ports and cowls shall be hydraulically designed in such
manner as to provide precise directional flow control of influent liquids and reduce
influent flow velocities as well as the force with which dirt and filtration aid contact
the filter tubes. The influent manifold shall provide a uniform flow pattern and
reliable dispersion of filtration aid during the precoat cycle.
C. The patented filter tubes shall consist of a polyester cloth septum and ABS plastic
septum support core. Each filter tube shall have a rigid 2.3” diameter, 47.7”
elongated body with 6 longitudinal ribs extending radially from a central hub in the
core. All edges of the core coming in contact with the cloth septum shall be rounded
to dramatically reduce wear on the filter tube. The septum cloth shall be
manufactured of high quality heat set polyester twill that shall provide resistance to
movement of the weave while promoting a high degree of permeability.
D. The pressure and tube plates shall be manufactured of Vinylester Resin and three
dimensional glass utilizing a patented Closed Cavity Bag Molding (CCBM) process
that provides a minimum laminate flexural modulus of 1.82E+06 psi and flexural
strength of 36.4 ksi. The filter tube effluent port shall be sandwiched between the
pressure and tube plates with an “o”-ring compression seal that prevents filter
media escaping from the tank. The tube plate design shall provide a minimum 1.00”
filter tube spacing to eliminate bridging during the filter cycle.
E. The filter tank drain assembly shall consist of a slopped self-draining bottom plate
hydraulically engineered to prevent media build-up within the tank, as well as
preventing solidification of media in the backwash port through the use of a slopped
45º grooved pipe connection. The bottom plate shall provide complete purging of
spent media in both the backwash and rinse cycle.
2.04 FACE PIPING
