Minutes, January 5, 2011: Ms. Tombre Moved and Mr. Dreyer Seconded a Motion to Approve the Minutes of January 5, 2011. Motion carried by unanimous vote. Goal No. 1 – Improve Access in Public Places. MSU: Ms. Shellenberger reported positive results from her meeting January 13 with MSU officials Jaynee Groseth, Michael Stevenson and Stacy Stanislao regarding improving access to MSU Buildings and arenas. Ms. Stacy Stanislao of the Department of Education, Health & Human Development will serve as the Board’s contact person to follow our suggestions of seeing to become one of two sites for the Governor’s Conference on Aging, encouraging MSU to suggest a prospective speaker for the Montana Gerontological Society Conference and naming a suitable liaison to this Board. Ms. Tombre provided names and contact information for Montana Department of Aging officials involved in planning the Governor’s Conference on Aging. Goal No. 2 – Recruit Additional Board Members. Ms. Shellenberger sent letters of invitation to Director of the Senior Center, to RSVP, Galavan, Befrienders, and Experience Works, inviting them to locate someone to apply for membership to this Board. As of February 2, 2011, no responses had been received. Goal No. 3 – Status of Acquisition of Assisted Listening Device for City Hall – James Goehrung, City Facilities Department, reported that we should have a device installed within the next two months. Goal No. 4 – proposal for creating additional parking spaces for the Senior Center using Fairgrounds property – John Vandelinder, CFCP, City Street Superintendent, described a proposed approach whereby the City will exchange paving and striping of part of the County Fairgrounds property for using Fairgrounds property as an area for dumping snow that has been removed. Sue Shockley, Manager of the County Fairgrounds, was in favor of the exchange. That would provide from 10-15 parking spaces adjacent to the Senior Center by summer 2011. Sean Becker described a larger, broad scale project involving multiple jurisdictions, agencies and boards that would improve the entire Tamarack St. neighborhood. Allison Brewster will call a preliminary meeting involving stakeholders (citizens, planners, designers, Boards and interested parties, etc.) to brainstorm and elicit input on the project. Ms. Shellenberger reported that the Judy Morrill, Senior Center Director, will welcome the Board to use space at the Senior Center for its meetings in order to be more accessible to the large population of seniors visiting the Center and to encourage public comments. Ms. Tombre Moved and Mr. Dreyer seconded a Motion to hold our March Board meeting at the Senior Center. The motion passed by unanimous vote. Mr. Dreyer will confirm the availability of the Senior Center Board Room for our March meeting. Mr. Dreyer will report the outcome of this conversation to Aimee Kissell, City Clerk. Mr. Becker reported that the senior population in Montana will double by the year 2030. New Business: The Board agreed that we should have a presence at the forthcoming Economic Development Summit to be held February 17 and 24, to emphasize the value of the senior population in Bozeman for “economic gardening,” the theme of the program. Ms. Shellenberger suggested to Mr. Vandelinder that a speed limit sign similar to the one on S. Eighth Ave. be installed near the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. The meeting adjourned at 2:15 PM. Respectfully submitted, Fran Shellenberger Secretary
