HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-21-10 DRAFT Beautification Advisory Board Minutes Bozeman Beautification Advisory Board Minutes for Wednesday, July 21, 2010 Meeting held at 12:00 p.m. in the Small Conference Room, Bozeman Public Library Board members in attendance: Terry Quatraro, Jan Bergman, Charlotte Knight, Ryan Haskins, and Allyson Bristor (City Staff liaison) 1.Call to Order at 12:05 p.m. 2.Guest Speaker (allowed guest to go first on the agenda) a.Jill Davis from MSU about Danforth Park project.  Described plans for park and handed out some information flyers about the “Students for Danforth Park” group –project is the “Project Iris Garden” whose goal is to preserve Danforth Park while educating MSU students, staff, and faculty as well as Bozeman community about the history of MSU’s illustrious and oldest park  Past and current clean up of the park – removed dead growth, trim hedges, keep healthy trees  Future pathway/garden plans for park – reestablishing the iris gardens  Fundraising efforts include an Art Swap event where $13K was raised  Working with MSU Facilities and trying to promote the need of the park – that partnership led to $25K given park for redo of pavement and new benches  Group wants to be responsible for repair/preservation of sundial in center as well as historic lights around perimeter, as well as all gardening within park and establishing a sign for the park  Group hopes to make park an “art center” for MSU – live performances, tea parties, lectures, place for students to engage, “destination park”  BBAB asked to consider helping in future with scheduled plantings or possibly a donation (plants, sign?)  BBAB members like the idea of collaboration with MSU and hopes to th continue that trend with future city beautification projects (S. 8 Avenue boulevards for example) 3.Approval of Minutes.  June minutes not completed yet. Forwarded to next meeting for future approval. 4.Disclosure of Information.  None to report. 5.Public Comment.  No public was in attendance. 6.Items of Discussion. a.Beautification Award Timeline  Continue coordination with Preservation Advisory Board when deciding award ceremony date and location th b.Mulch at Sacajawea Park on 7 Avenue  Western Pines mulch donation of two yards (certificate donated Jane Gillete) Page 2- BBAB DRAFT minutes for the meeting of July 21, 2010  BBAB decided to pay for an additional two yards so there was enough for the Sacajawea Park  BWAG will do mulch project  $45 delivery fee applies to mulch if City can’t pick it up  Terry asked where water source is located at Sacajawea Park – Allyson to confirm with Parks Department th  Terry hoped mulch could be dropped off at park on Thursday, July 29 – Allyson said to arrange drop off time/day with Western Pines and have them send an invoice to Planning for delivery and extra mulch 7.City Staff Liaison Update  Nothing at this time. 8.New Business, Upcoming Agenda Items a.BBAB projects on goal list. 8.BBAB Adjourned (1:40 p.m.) Minutes taken by Allyson Bristor, City of Bozeman Planning Staff Page 2- BBAB DRAFT minutes for the meeting of July 21, 2010
