Discussion Notes:
1. Leverich Canyon parkinct, presentation by Grect Beardslee
a) What would Greg like from BABAB? leadership and support
b) Lease where parking could go ( acres) is up in July
c) Propose modifying lease so city could lease to 2 people
d) Needs: permission from the city and from neighbors
e) An entity needs to manage the lease and be able to handle parking liability
f) No objections by the Water Treatment Dept., are willing to work on this issue
g) Next steps:
• Who wants to talk to the neighborhood contacts /current lease holder? Would
BABAB member be willing /wanting to help talking to the neighbors?
• Signage?
• Forest Service involvement/ participation?
• It is in the county. City can split the lease, but it is the county's perview.
• There is an urgency because the July lease. Want to put the pieces in place
with the players (City, County, residents, Forest Service)
• City parking on a city property? City does not want to incur any expense at all.
• Check in with the county (Mike Harris)
h) Agree to revisit at February meeting and get some follow up with Greg on city
feedback, lessee thoughts, etc. Get volunteer action from BABAB member
2. Distracting Driving and "Hands- Free" (Bill Bartlett update
a) Jeff Krauss is a vocal "anti" to the hands -free ordinance
b) Sam and Ralph have talked to Chief of Police, we have an official response
• Police chief would like us r focus on all distracted driving
• Ron Price, who is he?
• Bill is concerned we are not going to make much headway on this issue. Have
3 commissioners to try and reach them to see how they would vote.
• Chris K. says commissioners need data to convince them this is anything other
than a "feel good" ordinance.
• In January and February, city will decide to keep it on the work plan
• Intrinsic awareness -value
• Still need a Billings story. What about the police chief in Billings?
• Actions: get Molly (GVBC) to get members to write emails to commissioners.
• Sean, Andress
• Need to find out when the prioritizing of items is occurring. Carson will let
BABAB know when that meeting is being held.
• BABAB continues to want to try to move the issue forward
C) Ralph feels that we can still do more:
• He suggests BABAB chair should write a letter saying BABAB is in support of
ordinance and believes it should be adopted. And write a similar letter to
state, plus county letter
