HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-08-10 Senior Citizens' Advisory Board Minutes Bozeman City Senior Advisory Board December 8, 2010 Present: Norm Dreyer, Peggy Tombre, Fran Shellenberger, Sean Becker 1:15 PM, Gallatin Conference Room, Bozeman City Hall Topics discussed:  Decided to postpone election of officers until the January meeting in the hope that more members will be present.  Peggy is working on obtaining an additional board member from volunteers or staff at the Senior Center.  Fran has an appointment in January with MSU officials regarding the importance of the senior community to Bozeman, Gallatin County and the State’s economy, to ask MSU to provide a liaison to this Board and to encourage MSU to host one of the three sites for the Governor’s Conference on Aging in the near future.  Norm presented a number of demographic statistics, noting an 8% increase in Gallatin County from 2000 and will present more as the 2010 census data becomes available and review data from the Institutes for Tourism & Recreation Research (ITRR) and Headwater Economics.  We reviewed our proposed goals with Sean Becker.  Sean presented a tentative outline for obtaining parking spaces from the County Fairgrounds, including a review of the neighborhoods near the Senior Center and cooperation with the Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Board, the Fairgrounds Board, the Senior Center Board, the Senior Advisory Board, the N. Seventh Urban Renewal District, City Engineer Andy Kerr, John Vandelinder, Streets Superintendent, the Director of Public Works, and Allison Bristol, Neighborhood Coordinator. Sean will contact Ms. Bristol to arrange a meeting of all parties, describe goals, and submit a request to the City Engineer.  Ms. Shellenberger Moved to Request the City to Provide an Assisted Listening Device for use in City Hall meeting rooms. Mr. Dreyer seconded. The Motion carried by unanimous vote. Assignments:  Norm Dreyer will continue reviewing population statistics.  Fran Shellenberger will have an appointment with officials at MSU shortly following the January 2011 meeting. She will prepare notes from today’s meeting and put together a proposed agenda for the January meeting.  Peggy Tromble will follow up recruiting a new board member from the Senior Center. The next meeting will be held on January 5, 2011 in the Gallatin Conference Room City Hall, 121 N. Rouse, 1:15 p.m. Aimee Kissel will be requested to send out a reminder and agenda on December 28 or 29.
