Item # 1— Call meeting to order:
• Chairperson Keck called the meeting to order at 12:05p.m.
• Commissioner Mehl had to leave the meeting early, he left at 12:15 after the Trees for Tomorrow
presentation

Motion,: Boardmember Engler' motioned to approve the July 21, 2010 minutes as presented.

Item #4 — Open Public Comment:

Item #5 — New Business:
A\ Mountain pine beetle —Trees for Tomorrow planting project:
• Stacy& McKenzie Davies gave a presentation regarding raising money to educate kids on pine
beetle and how tofight it.
• The wood can be used for furniture and other useful things, they provided a piece of wood dyed
with the blue fungus
• A flyer was prVvided'vvith their contact information and they are working on getting their
vvebsiteup and running
• There is another project called Trees for Tomorrow out of Michigan that they are not affiliated
with, This Trees for Tomorrow project focuses on pine beetle in Montana
• It was requested that the flyer be put on the Bresnan City Channel and on the Forestry website

D) Green Ash update:
There are no changes since the last meeting
There are afew trees that are still trying to leaf out this summer and it is unkmnvvm if they will
come back next year
The purple monitoring devices the DNRC uses for the Emerald Ash Borer have been seen in
Cooper park and Kirk Park, it is unknown if they are new this year or left from last year
C) Gallatin Valley water issues:

• This board is concerned with the requirements in the UDO regarding seeding and watering
areas, at this time they are requiring it in areas that will be turned into parking lots in the future
• Boardmember Engler will draft a recommendation letter to the Planning Board and the
appropriate governing body to air the issues the Tree Board has from a tree standpoint on what
should be required for development and what shouldn't berequired

This isan ongoing project, once the new board members are on: board and the summer months
are past more effort will go towards this project

a\ Rouse Avenue Plan:
• Foreman Stover inventoried 92 trees between the Boys and Girls Club and Main Street, he was
confused as to where the public right of way was because the property lines vary along that
stretch ofroadway.
• He will be recommending some trees be removed because of potential damage to them during
construction and some are not in good shape. There are also some that will need to be
removed because they are growing where the sidewalk is going tmbe
• The project is estimated to be about yearsmut at the earliest

� |t was requested that copies of the minutes be printed ao two sided

Foreman Stover discussed how trees that are at risk or in poor health are looked at. The new
inventory program will keep track of trees that could potentially become hazard trees
�
City Arborist Jennifer Robbins explained how the new inventory software works, The Board
requested that open spaces, be listed also, she does not list open spares because there are some
open areas that are not suitable for tree planting due to utilities or other issues

The board requested that a PSA be sent out to educate people on which trees are worth trying
tn save and what isn't. Foreman Stover said that the ONRC sent out a notice but the Chronicle
didn't run it, he will forward ittm the Board. A slide will be built and put on the City Channel
asking people 10 leave the trees alone until next spring
Item #9 — Schedule next meeting — should be September 15, 2010:
The next meeting date is set for September 15, 2010 from noon to Ipm to be held in the
Yellowstone Room upstairs at City Hall, 121 N. Rouse Ave.
Motion: Boardmember Engler motioned to adjourn the meeting at 12:40.
Boardmember Misner seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
