Board Members: Andrew Ash, Lynn Bendz (sec), Mark Jones (president) , Tim Kuhlman, Carl Solvie,
Advisory Board Members: Chris Mehl, Dan Rust
Public: Larry Lambert (Bozeman Super 8)
The meeting opened at 12:00pm..
Mark Jones opened the meeting at noon asking for any disclosures and there were none.
He then asked for any public comment and there was none.
He reminded us that the October meeting will be the election of new officers for the coming year.
Jim Robbins showed us the room rental form which he mailed to each motel in our reporting district.
It asks for the rentals from Nov 1 2009 to the end of June 2010 and needs to be returned to Jim by August 31.
We went through the proposed budget beginning July 1, 2010. It shows $450,000 in income, and the
expenses are split between administration of $117,149.96 and marketing/advertising of $332, 850.04.
Andrew Ash made a motion to accept the budget, seconded by Carl Solvie.
Dan Rust mentioned that the loan which the tournament committee gave the BTBID to buy directors
insurance had never been repaid. Tim Kuhlman made a motion to repay the $1554.54 loan, seconded by
Carl Solvie, and all voiced approval on this motion.
Jim Robbins gave us a presentation on the new marketing plan developed mostly by Tim Kuhlman. It has
a high degree of measurable goals and is a roadmap for selling rooms in Bozeman. Jim is trying to get the
city parks department to give him an listing of all the park assets we can use to lure conventions and
meetings to our area. A motion to approve the marketing plan made by Carl Solvie, seconded by Lynn
Bendz, all approved.
Larry Lambert expressed approval of the marketing plan and mentioned that the Bozeman Lodging
st
Association will meet on the 1 Wednesday of each month starting in September and all or any BTBID
board members are welcome.
Dan Rust talked of getting an all class wresting tournament in February that had been scheduled for
Billings but a hail storm ruined the stadium, so the wrestlers have to move. Dan asked for guidance on
bidding for this venue, since the team had been willing to pay Billings up to $15,000 to host. Everyone
agreed that $0 bidding this would be foolish, and we should probably get as much money as Billings was
going to get. Dan will use his best judgment in the bidding for this event.
Chris Mehl said that this coming weekend that portions of Babcock would be closed for a 3-man per team
basketball tournement ---over a 100 people could be competing and it would be entertaining and profitable
for the area merchants. And of course our motels.
Meeting adjourned at 1pm. Next meeting will be at the Chamber on September 8.
