HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-05-05 Minutes, Study Commission, Sub-CommitteeJuly 12, 2005 CITY STUDY COMMISSION CITIZEN PANEL SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING JULY 5, 2005 Present: Bill Hayward, Marilou Turrentine, Tracy Oulman PURPOSE: Discussion of topics for citizen panel to be conducted in October/November TOPIC: Better communication between city government and citizens of Bozeman. Possible channels: 1) Newspaper — Meet with editor/editorial board/assistant editor 2) Radio 3) Internet 4) Television We discussed getting representatives from these diverse media groups to be involved in the citizen's panel discussions as well as representatives from the neighborhood councils. We talked about how one role of the city is to enhance communication between government and developers and its citizenry. We had a discussion on how proposals may appear on the ballot regarding separate issues associated with a charter: i.e. 1) charter — yes or no 2) related recommendations FOR CITIZEN PANEL DISCUSSION ON COMMUNICATION: 1) State the perceived issue/problem (the study commission is looking at problems in communications between developers, government and the public in a timely manner). 2) Propose solutions for discussion a) Public Information Officer b) Office of Planning and Community Development ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN: 1) In charter or recommendations to the city, address timeliness in alerting public. 2) Tracy will get the results of a task force commissioned by the city of Portland regarding how to better communicate with citizens. 3) Marilou and Bill will formulate questions regarding chain of communication (and other topics to be determined) with Robin Sullivan.
