In order to make it work with the depth and grade of the drain lines, it would have to be modified in the field and be located at an inaccessible depth After further reviewing the sump box and its intended purpose, it was determined that a better solution would be to catch lighter (organic) material before it reached the rinkam, as this material would more adversely affect the water quality m the cistern Several options were discussed by DSA and Stahly engineering, and an in-line strainer was determined to be the most cost-effective and simple solution. Both the sump box and the strainer require periodic maintenance, but the strainer could be placed in a more easily accessible location. Heavy solids in the water would settle out io the tank and could be removed from the tank direotiy The pump in the tank ionna float, oo solids mi the bottom do not affect its function. CP#28- Unit Heater Oheogo This change ix the result o[en incorrect unit heater model listed in the schedule. Bids were based onthe scheduled unit, but when the unit heater was submitted for approval[, it was noticed that the bid model submitted did not meet the specified requirements. The correct model is more expensive due to its size and mounting configuration CP#2Q- Revised fresh air ductwork During the mechanical pre-construction meeting, the sub contractor responsible for the waste oil boiler noticed that the proximity of the fresh air intakes |o the waste oil boiler would require multiple bends inthe boiler's flue. This was the original intent of the design, and met code requirements for the installation. The sub contractor was adamant about keeping the flue straight in order to maintain the best draw and hottest exhauStr which would result in better efficiency of the boiler and less soot (and therefore maintenance) in the flue. While evaluating a suitable relocation of the fresh air intakes, the design team was constricted by proximi1yloibgwesteoi|boi|erf|ue(1Ofnoto|esranne).ihogaobVi|erf|uea.andtheohnpmndbunbexn exhaust vents There was also very littie room to run the large duct required in the ceiling of the office area It was decided in route the intake to the north wall of the bus barn building, which would take the large vent off the roofs (resulting in fewer roof penetrations) and well away from any exhaust source. This ended up being an ideal location for the Intake, and a better overall solution than the original design. The sub contractor's concerns were corroborated by the design team inmlater experience ona different project. |n that case, the waste oil boiler Installed had multiple bends , and serious problems arose both in function of the boiler and in adverse affects on nearby materials (heat damaQm) That project involved a different sub contractor, and was also installed per code, but the current sub contractor's insistence and experience suggest these units require more care during installation 55 West 14 Street Suite 103 Meena, MIT 59601 406-457-5470 ph 406-495-0063 fax 2O42 Stadium Drive Suite 2 Bozeman, IVIT59715 406-556-0113 ph 406-556-0114 fax .uom CP #30 - Big Ass Fan This item was added to the project at the request of the Owner. It was originally requested and intended to be part of the project, and was mentioned in earlier meeting minutes. The design team erroneously omitted this item during design, and subsequent reviews did not catch it until after the bid had been awarded. The Owner had originally requested a specific fan model, the "Big Ass Fan ", and this item was priced as an addition to the project While the initial cost of the item is significant, the design team still recommends this item based on the following points: 1) A single Big Ass Fan(BAF) is sufficient to provide necessary air movement within the shop space, while it would take up to eight standard sized fans to move the same amount of air. 2) The BAF is designed and constructed to run maintenance free for long periods of timer and has a good performance track record 3) When considering installation costs, the unit cost of the BAF compared to standard sized fans comes down considerably, as there is only one fan to wire and install. 4)When considering life cycle costs, the cost of the BAF comes down again as there is only one fan to maintain, and its efficiency will require less power to operate. 5) Most importantly, a minimum of overhead space is taken up by the fan, which is critical in a space with overhead air drops, vehicle lifts, a crane and overhead fluid drops. CP #34 - Additional Concrete for Rainwater Tank Slab During installation of the sewer lines and finalization of grades for sewer and roof drain lines, the elevation and orientation of the rainwater cistern was modified slightly (also relates to CP #26.) The cistern requires a minimum depth of installation to protect against damage from vehicular traffic, and that depth varies based on the materials directly above the tank. When the tank elevation was modified, it was put at the edge of the threshold for safety. Once asphalt paving was placed over the tank, its depth would be adequate, but that installation may not take place for some time. A better solution, since the tank had been re- oriented parallel to the building, was to simply extend the concrete apron over the tank. This would provide immediate added protection, and would provide better, more stable protection than asphalt. Because the road base was already in place and a slab already scheduled to be poured, the added cost was minimal. CP #36 - Sand Storage Light Pole This item was added to the city planning review drawings as part of the sand storage facility Drawings for the sand storage facility were included in the shops building drawing set in order for the Owner to get both through the planning permit process at the same time, although they were separate projects. The light pole was not initially part of the shops building project and was not included in the bid for this project. Since the contractor is on site and working already, it made sense to add this item to a construction contract already in place as a change order. Although it will show up as part of the contract budget, this item will be paid for by separate funds added to the project and will not impact the Owner's original budget for the project. ;Members American Institute of Architects B N B ThLirsday, AUgUSt :12, 2010 Kke Wiseman Dowhrig Sandh*n Architects 55 West 14th Street Helena, MT 5960 suer Mike Wiseman, 1 letter is to reqUest authorrzaUon to proceed with the Mowing extra works CP Number. 26 Description Sump Box and Strainer Valve - RFI #19 - Revised Proposed Amy, $ 3,631 ®1 Days Requested: 0 days 15:qpe f Iffi s ummary): p_ qrk (see attached for detailed coil s Provide labor, eqwprnent, and materials for one 10" strainer, anchors from floor and cefling, and one 10" kig-style butterfly valve in roof drain riser in bul0cling for a compRete system. per RFT 4 P ease rwu bdov and return a capy of this latter to indicate your acccptanco of this oxtm wark ard ap the sts may appiy if authorizabon is receiqd after pnce for this v;ark, AddUriai w KQu0dcrs has proceeded vmb the v per PreVIOU5 ROM approval (atLached).
