Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Appointments to the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board MEETING DATE: September 27, 2010 MEETING TYPE: Action RECOMMENDATION: Appoint one new member to the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board and re-appoint the student member as an at-large member. BACKGROUND: The Recreation and Parks Advisory Board currently has two vacancies. One new applicant has applied and the student member with a term expiring October 2 has applied for an at-large position. While he is a student, he is also a full-time resident, property owner and owns a local business. He would prefer the at-large position to avoid the need to re-apply every year. If both applicants are (re)appointed, one student vacancy will be open. The Recreation and Parks Advisory Board is established under Section 2.36.030 of the Bozeman Municipal Code. It consists of up to fourteen members who serve three-year terms, except for the two students, who serve one-year terms. They shall represent as many facets of recreational programs as possible. A majority of the members, regardless of the Board's size, shall be residents of the City. The Board is advisory, making recommendations to the City Commission on policy and procedural matters in the field of recreation and playgrounds as well as parkland dedications or cash-in-lieu proposals forwarded during the planning/subdivision process. I am an avid outdoorsman and one of the primary reasons we chose to live in Bozeman was the abundant number of parks and recreation opportunities. I strongly believe that community support is what makes the park infrastructure strong and this is what motivates me to continue to be involved. I believe that my inquisitive nature and ability to appreciate an issue from many angles is an asset to the board. In short, I feel like I am finally understanding how the board works and would like to continue my tenure as a member. Print form E-mail form 123
