HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-01-10 Senior Citizen's Advisory Board Agenda
Hello,
Bozeman Senior Advisory Board will meet at 1:15
Please consider this a notice that the on
Wednesday Sept 1, 2010
in the City Office building (likely the Gallatin room).
The agenda will be as follows:
Item #1. There has not been a single member of the general public attend one of our meetings in
over 3 years to bring in any kind of Board business matter, but we will ask for any public
comment as an agenda item.
Item # 2. I will possibly not attend this meeting due to other important commitments. If I am able
to attend I will chair the meeting, but it will be the last meeting I expect to attend. I have
mentioned the necessity to terminate my Senior Board Activities and it is time to do that. So it is
imperative that the Board confirm that the Vice-Chair or another person will take over these
responsibilities. If I am unable to attend, then some other Board member will need to preside at
this meeting.
Item #3. Old Business, specifically further identification of any senior issues that the Board needs
to address including those topics previously mentioned even though none were adopted as having
priority.
Item #4. Any other new business.
Ken Tiahrt, Chairperson (only until Wednesday Sept 1, 2910)
Senior issues previously mentioned as worthy of priority consideration
Walking within Bozeman,
Availability of safe places.
Giving pedestrian considerations priority over automobiles.
Perhaps some flashing lights on N Tracy Ave by the Centennial Park, ie, the Senior Center
crosswalk.
Parking in shopping areas,
Seniors often do not walk fast or well, convenient parking places need to be designated
throughout town,
Perhaps we should have an “imitation event” where various city and government people
walk about town with some moderately handicapped seniors. (parking garage, across streets, etc)
Some more effort to get the Fairgrounds parking open (almost always) to Senior Center
extra parking, with related flashing light crosswalks on Tamarack Street
Senior health considerations
More publicity on availability of reliable information on insurance choices.
Better publicity on preventive health care events. (could special transportation be offered
to flu shots, etc)
Senior financial considerations
Effect of tax increases in the face of inflation and fixed retirement income.
Could senior homes be exempted from city utility rate increases. (possibly by application)
Low Income Housing
I’m sure there folks looking to recover financial costs related to the trailer court on Bridger
Drive. However, would it be possible to organize some sort of non-profit housing authority to
take over the property and re-develop the trailer court and/or other low cost housing on that site?
Being a sort of low-key Democrat could the city (or another government unit) confiscate it and
turn it over to a quasi government not-profit using some sort of big dollar grant to pay off the
current delinquent owners and move forward with low-cost housing for qualified residents?
Social services related to home bound persons unable to care for themselves.
Other issues that have been conveyed to me include:
The Story Mansion,
The Broken Water Main Consequences,
Is the Senior Board Really Needed?,
Excessive livestock in and about Bozeman including dogs and chickens,
General inattention to any senior citizen input on any subject, should our Board meetings be
reorganized in some manner or location?
