Tourism Business Improvement District
Minutes of Meeting July 14, 2010
City Building, Bozeman Montana
Present: Daryl Schliem (Executive Director)
Board Members: Lynn Bendz (sec), Tim Kuhlman, Carl Solvie, Tom Stenzel (treasurer)
Advisory Board Members: Melanie Stocks , Chris Mehl
Public: Jeremy Fatouros, C’Mon Inn
The meeting opened at 12:20pm as we had to wait for a quorum to arrive
.
Tom Stenzel opened the meeting asking for any disclosures and there were none.
He then asked for any public comment and Jeremy Fatouros brought up two issues.
st
1-when are the motels in Bozeman going to start reporting their room rental figures? Tom explained that we
are lagging in our organizing efforts but that we will soon be hiring an accounting firm
to implement some reporting requirements.
nd
2- Jeremy reported that he had attended the College National Rodeo Finals in Casper and that many of the
people he spoke to really want to move the event to Bozeman. Everyone agreed that would be a fine venue to
attract to our area. Melanie Stocks has worked with the Rodeo in the past, and is aware of some hurdles that
may slow the process. The next available event is in 2012.
Chris Mehl said that our first anniversary is approaching and that we should submit a report to the City
Commission listing our accomplishments and expenditures for the past year, along with our goals for the next
year. Daryl Schliem said he would get that report done.
LC Staffing found a good candidate for our salesperson job and recently held an open forum for people to meet
him and ask questions. Carl Solvie attended this meeting and was impressed with the quality and experience
of the gentleman from Big Sky Montana. His name is Jim Robbins and Daryl Schliem also agreed that he
would be a fine employee and has enough sales knowledge and drive that he could be the person to really get
our program off the ground. Everyone agreed that he was a good starting person and Tim Kuhlman made a
motion to hire Jim on a 6 months conditional employment contract. Daryl is very familiar with such contracts
and will write one for Mr. Robbins. Carl Solvie seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously on voice
approval.
Daryl Schliem made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Tim Kuhlman, and the meeting adjourned at 1pm.
