MEETING DATE: August 23, 2010 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the contract to Morrison Maierle for the engineering design of main pool pump upgrade and natatorium lighting upgrade for the Bozeman Swim Center not to exceed $25,355. · Main pool pump design $11,800 · Natatorium lighting design $13,555 · Total $25,355 BACKGROUND: Main Pool Pump: The main pool pump malfunctioned in September of 2009. During the process of getting the pool back on-line the aquatic staff met with many parties (repairmen, water dept., and engineers) to determine the best fix. The pump was repaired well enough to get through the remaining fiscal year. The design will include a new pump, variable frequency drive, and any electrical work needed. Natatorium Lighting: The natatorium lighting is 35 years old, and the T12HPO lights will no longer be manufactured starting January 2010. In replacing the lighting system we will increase the overall lighting for the pool, while reducing the overall energy consumption. The new lighting will be a metal halide bulb fixture (or engineered equivalent) that will have a greater light output at a lower energy usage. The new fixtures will also be sealed against moisture, and easier for staff to change the bulbs compared to the current system. 39 FISCAL EFFECTS: This project was an approved CIP item for FY 2011. The approved budget for the pump project is $85,000. These costs result in a project balance of $73,200, which will be used for the construction of the project. The approved budget for the natatorium lighting is $95,000. This cost results in a project balance of $81,445, which will be used for the construction phase of the project.
