MEETING DATE: August 23, 2010 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the contract with Nishkian Monks Engineering for welding inspection for the Vehicle Maintenance Building and HRDC Bus Barn in the amount of $400.00. BACKGROUND: Nishikan Monks Engineering has provided structural engineering services as a sub-contractor under the general architectural contact for the Vehicle Maintenance Building and HRDC Bus Barn. The original agreement did not include welding services because at the time of the contract we were not clear as to what the final form of the building would be. Building code requires that welding inspections be conducted on certain portions of the building. These inspections are to verify that all the required welds were completed and that the welds have the proper depth of penetration. Attached is a copy of the scope of services and terms and conditions for these inspection services from Nishkian Monks Engineering. The contract is an hourly rate and details the needed level of service for the project. The contract is a not to exceed amount of $400.00 The number of tests has been confirmed with the Architect and the Contractor. As per the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding for the project, HRDC has also approved this proposal. UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None related to this particular action. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. 68 FISCAL EFFECTS: Money for the welding inspection services will be covered under Owner Provided Items – Special Inspections. These costs were identified during the bidding process and were included in the final approved budget for the project. The budgeted amount for special inspections is $8,000.00 for the project. This is $4,000.00 for the city and $4,000.00 for HRDC. The contract amount of $400 will be split with HRDC and will be allocated on a 50% / 50% cost basis. Final cost to the city for these inspection services will be a not to exceed of $200.00. Attachments: Contract Report compiled on: August 3, 2010 69 70 71
