Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board (BABAB) Meeting Minutes
February 3, 2010 6-8pm, City Commission Room, City Hall
BABAB members present:
Chad Bailey, Steve Bretson, Elizabeth Bird, Rebecca Gleason,
Elizabeth Williamson, Bill Bartlett

1. Introductions and general Public Comments
Sam and Liz attended to coordinate on Bike to Work Week (BTWW), Chris is attending on
behalf of Concrete Reform to learn about Boz. Biking and coordinate efforts (Concrete

Reform Earth Week event planned April 19.)

3. Disclose information or discussions that board members had on a board related topic. None

4. Report of progress from Committee on map updates (Eliz W., Baker, Chad, Steve)
$3000 from SRTS for printing, include SRTS
Proposed map elements can be found on Bike Bozeman discussion forum and include:
Trail systems
Bike shop and rentals (full service)
Medical attn
Parks and rec areas (skateboard park, climbing walls..)
Public buildings and internet access sites (may be too much info- not focused on
bikes)
Other points of interest and landmarks (focused on bicyclists)
Urban map on one side with larger area showing links to trails/trailhead on other
side.
Information elements:
Light the night (or Pilot light) campaign
Safety information
Bicycle benefits – Bike Bozeman, own website
Future road improvement areas – how to contact the city
Waiting on city legal for ok to go with Massive for graphic design of map
Map committee action items:
Bring detailed map proposal to March meeting and present to board

Ask GVLT about collaborating on new map-(GIS layers for current and future

trails) is there opportunity to combine efforts/funding?
Check with Jon Henderson- City on GIS layers for map

5. Discuss and finalize job descriptions, Board expectations and procedures.

7. Need BABAB representative for Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP)
committee – Short-term obligation (4 meetings anticipated over the coming months to
discuss advertisement of applications for CTEP $, review of applications, and
recommendations, but then Committee may not meet for the next 2-3 years); request came
from Ron Dingman who convenes the committee. Other members: Chris Naumann, Gary
Vodehnal, Tom White. Response needs to go to Ron Dingman, 582-3222.
Bill Bartlett will contact Ron Dingman and introduce himself as BABAB's CTEP

representative (thank you Bill!).
8. Officer nominations and election

Contact other biking organizations/teams- GAS, Team Delphine, Gallatin Valley Bike

Club (GVBC), Mule-Terra, Mt bike club etc- consider having each bike team sponsor
a different BTWW day- make competition btwn teams, spread work around.
March- recruit businesses for BTWW support:

Elle’s Belles is up for BTWW,
o
Contact non-traditional employers for BTWW contributions such as food. (consider

ST
hospital employees, MSU, Intrinsic, Hospital, Zoot, the Ridge, Refuge, 1 Interstate
Bank…)
Steve Bretson is working with the new mountain bike club/GVBC to organize a bike expo

with a film tentatively in April (date depends on when film travels through town)
10. How do we want to follow through with “Light the Bike at Night” budget item?
Planet Bike (company w/ program) needs to work with non-profit to give discount on
o
bike lights.
Involve police with "Pilot Light" campaign
o
Collaborate with Bike Kitchen for purchase/installing lights?
o
Consider installing lights on bikes at the BTWW party or bike expo or other event
o
“Pilot Light” campaign (plan with structure at next meeting) (create a planned

campaign for next year)

Pending business:
21. Bike Board to bring to City Commission letter to recommend “snow emergency”
ordinance about road plowing and sidewalk clearing in winter. Neighborhoods could opt
out if they had a different option that worked with the streets department. Propose we
flesh out a policy proposal as part of Feb. 16 Board training.
