10.Report from Planning Board meeting – how do we want to address downtown planning
when it goes to TCC etc.? - EB
Discussion of feasibility study to turn Babcock and Mendenhall into two-way streets.
Commissioners are committed to discussing options in next 2 years. City believes it
is right thing because it promotes a wider downtown and may slow traffic. BABAB
needs a strategy to address the issue of no bike lanes in the Downtown Business
Plan. We need to better understand the issues -Has there been a study of bike lanes
versus parking downtown? How do complete streets fit in?
Actions:
Steve will invite Joe Gilpin to June meeting to inform BABAB on downtown
o
bike lane options/issues.
Bill Cochran will bring up issue at TCC meeting as a concern of BABAB.
o
After we gain a better understanding, create a strategy to address biking downtown.
Come up with a number of alternatives (eliminate parking on one side of street, keep
one way, no parking on one side… Develop options, draft letter and keep bringing this
issue up to planning board, commission and TCC…
11.Updates/ Status Reports
CIP request – John VanDelinder, New MUTCD – do not need signs, symbols and
rd
striping. JV advised Andy Kerr to implement 23, Willson and ? biking. Locations to
paint symbols/striping are where City/MDT will already be doing striping. If City has
meeting w/ MDT re Peach – BABAB would like to be present. JV will check on status.

BABAB April 7, 2010 meeting minutes
Other Issues
Level of censorship for bike Bozeman site – need to promote safety and remove
video showing running red lights, not wearing a helmet.
BABAB needs to put on our agenda – every time we spend money, public notice for
proposed expenditures. Decide how to spend $700 from GVBC for May agenda
item.
BABAB – position on cell phones while driving. Is there evidence that ordinance
make a difference? Doesn’t matter – good publicity. Discuss and draft letter to
commission on this issue.
New Business:
14.2011 budget development (brainstorm if time)
15.Develop proposal about road plowing and sidewalk clearing in winter. (Build on
brainstorm and discussion at February training.)
16.Plan for June – report from Brenda re her study of BABAB; policy meeting with
City/County re coordinator position?
May meeting plans – map; Bike Week
