Steve Sparks asked for a review of the minutes from the meetings of March 10, April 14, and April 23.
No changes and a motion to accept by Andrew Ash, seconded by Carl Solvie, all approved.
There were no disclosures or public comment.
Daryl reported that LC Staffing had several candidates for our TBID sales position. He invited board
members to write down a list of questions to ask the candidates during his interview process. As the
process winnows down the list, perhaps there will be an opportunity for the board to meet with the finalists.
We have drawn $20,000 on our bank credit to pay some bills. $15,000 set aside to pay for the spring ad
campaign with Mercury Advertising.
The tournament committee may need as much as $52,000 to pay for the venues we won in the bidding
process.
Tim Kuhlman has been drawing up a marketing plan that our new salesperson can implement. Tim has
attended the Bozeman motel/hotel meeting to get input from the motel representatives. The marketing
plan includes sales goals from each of several different market segments: conventions, leisure, sports,
group tours, events, and film.
Steve Sparks asked for public comment and Larry Lambert offered congratulations’ to the tournament
committee for winning so many sports bids for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. And he thanked Tim for
attending the Bozeman Hotel/Motel meetings to get their input.
Brian Sprenger gave a presentation requesting money from us to sweeten the incentive pot which Bozeman
interests’ are presenting to American Airlines Monday in Dallas. Getting American to have Bozeman
daily service from Dallas/Ft Worth would generate lots of additional vacation/business travelers in our
market. Daryl’s rough figures show that perhaps as much as $2,000,000 in additional room rentals in
Bozeman could be accomplished if American begins those daily flights. Much talk about the unfairness
of subsidizing American to the detriment of the airlines already here. Brian said that this was just business
as usual and the other airlines would understand. Perhaps. But perhaps this will open a Pandora’s Box of
new subsidy requests. Larry Lambert said that the motels attending the last motel meeting were in favor
of at any rate, the temptation of getting that much new business prompted Tim Kuhman to propose
committing $25,000 to the financial guarantees that the airline is requesting. If the money really is
needed, it will not be asked for until at least 2012. Motion seconded by Carl Solvie. The motion passed
with all “yea’s”.
Motion to adjourn at 1:40 pm by Andrew Ash, seconded by Tom Stenzel.
Next meeting June 9, 2010 at City Hall.
