and snacks. Afterwards,
live music, food and a
showcase of local busi-
nesses will be offered.

bration of Earth Day, Started

Nelson of Wisconsin, this
grassroots movement has
now become an international
success, Over 20 Million peo-
ple pa rti c pa te d in the iniaugu•-
iral Eairth IDay, with cities and
local communities organizing,
efforts, schools and business•-
es to lending, their time and
hands towards environmental
proects.
Igr oug,ht forth by a very sim•
ple idea, the first Eairth IDay
proved an incredible success

On Saturday, Apr ill 24th the
community came togetheir to
participate in the annual
co Ill ntywide effor t to r id pub-
lic parks, roadsides and areas
of g,arbag,e. The day was
g,ranted favorable weather
and a huge public turnout.
Groups, families, individuals
and man's best friend arrived
ea r y to establish their
route, fetch some coffee and
head out to attack the trash,
in the meantime, locals were
provided the opportunity to
one powered solely by human
energy, As Senator Nelson
recalled, "Earth Day worked
because of the spontaneous
response at the grassroots
levelL VVe had neither the
time nor resources to organ•
ize 20 million demonstrators
and the thousands of schools
and local communities that
participated. That was the
re m a r ka b e thing about Eairth
Day: it organized itself"
Today, the City of Bozeman
in pa rtner ship with MSU aims
to celebrate the Gallatin Val-
ley and the Eairth thirough a

hours, followed by the loud
"clinking" of bottles being
dumped. As the Clean Up
IDay participants retur ned
with trash in hand, they
were greeted by record

opportunity to learn about
best practices and local sus-
tainable oriented, businesses,
