HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-10-10 Tourism Business Improvement District Minutes Bozeman Tourism Business Improvement District Wednesday, March 10, 2010 City Hall Gallatin Conference Room 12:00 Noon – 2 pm Minutes Motion was made and seconded to approve the Minutes from February 10, 2010 regular meeting and to approve the February 16, 2010 Special Meeting Minutes. Motion Carried. Administration  Quarterly Reporting – There was much discussion on a variety of ways to restructure the collection of the $1.00 (one dollar) self imposed TBID Tax. Also several ideas on how each hotel should be tiered in how much they pay. After much discussion it was decided to table until further data could be gathered. – No Action  Budget – A rough draft of the current financial budget for the TBID Baord to continue to give direction on what format and reports that they would like to see presented. Information Only  American Airlines – a brief presentation was made by Daryl Schliem to have the TBID Board consider funding a portion of the $200,000.00 private raise to help secure American Airlines here. With such limited information, discussion was tabled. No action  TBID staffing was discussed to begin the process on hiring a full time employee that would be 100% dedicated to working on TBID issues. Motion was made and seconded on hiring a full time employee in the very near future. Motion Carried. Mercury Presentation  Mercury presented a view of warm season creative marketing plan. Motion was made and seconded to begin this plan to begin in April to help jump start the tourist season attraction to the Bozeman area. Motion Carried  Motion was made and seconded to limit the warm media spend to less than $15,000.00 (fifteen thousand dollars) Motion Carried Marketing Committee  Motion was made and seconded to set up a marketing committee to begin writing a short term, mid term and long range plan for the Bozeman TBID. Motion Carried Wildlife Society RFP  A Presentation was made on hosting the Wildlife Society Annual Conference here in Bozeman. This would be our first attempt to secure nearly 3,000 room nights and also begin to gather information from each hotel to be collectively submitted by the Convention and Visitors Bureau . A motion and second was make to set aside $60,000.00 (sixty thousand dollars) towards securing the Wildlife Society Conference. Motion Carried. Tournament Committee updates  A presentation was made to request money for the 2011-2012 tournament season. The request had come in to assist in bidding all tournaments as a zero bid to come to Bozeman. The tournament committee thought it may cost nearly $82,000.00 (eighty two thousand dollars) if we were to successfully get them all. After much discussion a motion was mad and seconded to approve a total of $52,000.00 (fifty two thousand dollars) towards securing tournaments to Bozeman / Belgrade area. Motion Carried.
