REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: John Van Delinder, Street Superintendent
Debbie Arkell, Public Services Director

SUBJECT: Bid award of Forestry Department’s new chipper truck to Fremont Motors
for the amount of $50,292.38.
MEETING DATE: April 21, 2010
MEETING TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Award bid to Fremont Motors for one new 2011 Ford F550 with
chipper body in the amount of $50,298.38 to be delivered to the City of Bozeman Shop
Complex.
BACKGROUND: This chipper truck is in the 2010 Capital Improvement Plan and in the
2010 approved budget. This will replace our 1990 chip truck as our front line unit. It will be
diesel powered and capable of running on B-20 Bio Diesel. Fuel mileage will increase and
emissions will decrease. The truck is used to haul the chips that are produced by the Forestry’s
wood chipper. The 1990 chip truck will be used as a second chip truck and water truck as
needed replacing a 1978 water truck that will be used for hauling snow. This was the lowest bid
received.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The budgeted amount for this truck was $70,304. By awarding this bid
we will not be spending $20,011.62 that was budgeted. We will save an estimated 50% in fuel
costs.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
