Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Chris Saunders, Interim Planning Director
Chris Saunders, City Manager
SUBJECT: Memorandum of Understanding with the Montana Department of
Transportation for continuing transportation planning.
MEETING DATE: March 29, 2010
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the Mayor’s signature on the Memorandum of
Understanding with the Montana Department of Transportation for continuing transportation
planning.
BACKGROUND: The City has had a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the
Montana Department of Transportation for many years. This MOU is the coordinating
instrument which supports the coordination of transportation planning in the Bozeman area.
Most recently the Transportation Coordinating Committee which is authorized by the MOU
completed an update to the Greater Bozeman Area Transportation Plan which was adopted by
the Commission in January 2009.
Transportation planning between the City, County, State, Federal Highways, MSU and other
entities is critical to the health, economic and physical, of the Bozeman community. The
cooperative nature of planning through the MOU is resource efficient and helps address issues
which frequently cross the boundaries of individual jurisdictions.
The MOU has been updated and now requires the Mayor’s signature on behalf of the City.
FISCAL EFFECTS: No additional expenses are anticipated to be created by this MOU.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
