MEETING DATE: February 1, 2010 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign Change Order #4 for the City’s share of the cost of the modifications to the fire suppression/alarm system and the addition of a welding vent hood in the vehicle maintenance shop. The cost of the change order is $9,554.73. BACKGROUND: During the bidding process the revisions to the fire suppression/alarm system were called out during concurrent plan review. The addition of the welding hood was called out by staff as a needed amenity in the shop area. The schedule of the bid process did not allow enough time to issue a formal addendum so that the items could be included in the original bid. Instead, a place holder was put into the budget for the estimated cost of these two items and the components are now being added as change orders. FISCAL EFFECTS: The fire suppression/alarm system and vent hood are listed in the budget under pre-construction change orders. The amounts identified for these two items are $6,400.00 for the fire system, city share of $3,200.00, and $5,000.00 for the welding hood and related fans and electrical work; for a total of $8,200.00. The city portion of the change leaves $1,354.73, which will be charged out against contingency. Project Contingency $128,501.70 Change Order #2 ($4,839.82) Chance Order #3 ($2,362.30) Change Order #4 ($1,354.73) Contingency Balance $119,944.85 149 ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
